“Appa, I’m only 19, I can’t get married! I refuse to! ” Hyeri threw her bag down on the L-shaped leather couch, stomping her way around the living room and pointing an accusing finger at her father, who let out a few weak coughs.

“Hyeri ah-” Yoo Bomi, her father’s secretary Hyeri’s part time babysitter stood up and sighed with worry.

“You stay out of this, it’s between me and Kang Ji Tae. Noone gets involved!” Hyeri snapped at the girl who shut right away. “Including you!” she directed her finger towards Socks, her cat.

The man in his late forties knew trouble was brewing if his beloved daughter starts calling him by his full name.

Ji Tae, the man half-lying on the other side of the couch paled for a few seconds, then regained his composure. “I won’t get to rest in peace if you continue being so stubborn, my dear daughter. I need someone to take over the company and at the same time, cherish and love you,” he feebly managed two sentences and broke in a spasm of violent coughs.

“Well, how about no? I could inherit everything you have! I don’t care! I don’t need a stupid jerk to take over my father’s place in the company! Appa, how about you don’t die?” Hyeri’s tone turned from rage into pathetic when she muttered the last sentence.

“Some things can’t be controlled. 3 more months to live is good enough for me. But most importantly, I want my daughter to find her happiness.” Ji Tae gestured to one of the maids to bring him his medication.

She had always been her daddy’s little girl. Bathed in a world of rainbows and happiness, Hyeri didn’t have anything to worry about, until today.

It’s not about the lack of good-looking or talented guys around her. Her elite school has practically tons of these kinds of guys. “But you know I don’t trust guys,” it was barely audible when it came out of , but her father caught it anyway.

“What about Kim Sunggyu?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Appa! He’s different! He saved my life once! If it wasn’t for him your precious daughter would’ve been dead! Can’t you make any sense?” Nothing was stopping her from arguing till the end.

“Hyeri, you have to move on. You can’t keep living in the past. Whatever happened to your umma cannot be the thing affecting you forever.” He sighed and took a gulp of water.

“What if I end up like her?” Both her fists clenched at her sides. Her tone became deadly cold.

“Stop using her as an excuse. If you want me die happily, you better get yourself a husband-material boyfriend. You have three months.” Her father’s tone was final. He stood up shakily, frail fingers wrapped around his walking stick.

You have three months. These words echoed again and again and filled her brain. She felt like she was going to explode, very, very soon. “I have three ing months.” She nodded and picked up her backpack, stomping up the stairs, ignoring the shell-shocked expression of Kang Ji Tae when he heard his daughter cuss for the first time in his life.
