Guide to a Monster's Heart

Description

RULE NUMBER 1: Do NOT take him with you.

Cha Haseon has been having the same dream every Saturday night for five months. Every time she sees a tall boy with tousled black hair and a thick black ring piercing his bottom lip. He stares at her through a thick cloud of smoke and whispers something; words she cannot hear no matter how hard she strains. Each time she calls out, but her voice never reaches him. His eyes glow with curiosity and intrigue, but his feet remain planted to the ground and his arms stay stiff by his sides.

Of course, this is just a dream. She's never seen such a boy in her life. If she had, there'd be no way she'd forget someone so . . . different, right?

But if he was only a dream why was he standing in front of her right now?

Foreword

THE DREAM

His hands were balled into fists at his sides. They stayed stiff and controlled as if it took every ounce of concentration he had to keep them from moving. I wish they would move. I wanted to see how his fingers moved when they could, how they look reaching out to me.

“Hello,” I say, but I know my voice will never reach him. The sound waves only travel so far.

So where is he?

The cloud of smoke cleared for a small frame of time, exposing his brown, glowing eyes. They flickered up and down, examining me. His eyebrows pulled down in the middle and his frown deepened. I could see his mouth move, forming words with a voice I yearned to hear, but they never reached me. They never have.

I stretched out my arm. Maybe I’d break the barrier. Maybe I could join the beautiful stranger.

He looked down and then up again, causing his disheveled black hair falling in his eyes, but he didn’t attempt to put them back in place. He his lips before continuing to speak with no sound.

My fingers reached nothing. I wasn’t even sure if they were touching air.

The haunting purple light casting down on us made his features sharp, with unpredictable edges. They made him look incredible . . . abnormal. They made him look unnatural and—

“Scary,” I whispered.

His eyes widened and his arms strained. Dare I say they even moved ever so slightly.

ALSO: This was originally just Monster, but I changed the title because Monster didn't have the right feel to where the story was going. Sorry about that. Anyway, enjoooyyy
