Pure, immobilizing terror.

I never realized that a person could ever feel this terrified in their whole life. But I know now, the feeling of it, the feeling of knowing that death is upon you.

I was curled up under a table with my best friend next to me. He mouthed to me something but I was shaking too much, I was panicking too much to fathom a single word he had mouthed. He reached out a hand, gently placing it over mine. He interlaced our fingers and nodded his head. I wasn’t sure what it meant but with him holding onto me, I feel slightly safer. But of course, the fear was still there.

I jumped a little when there was another gunshot.

Kyuhyun squeezed my hands and clasped a hand onto my mouth softly whispering to me to keep calm.

My eyes instead, darted nervously around the bank.

My father. He was right there, right behind a table that had toppled down when the robbers had ambushed in. His eyes found mine and I could spot the worry in his eyes. But they were not for him, for his own safety, for his own life. The worry eyes were for me and Kyuhyun.

Because the robber was heading right towards our hiding spot.

He motioned for us to run, to run out of the bank, to leave, but I shook my head. I couldn’t leave him alone with these bastards. They were shooting down every innocent human, they were killing everyone in their sight. I couldn’t leave my father alone here.

I heard the footsteps growing closer and then it stopped altogether. I held my breath and everything that happened next changed my life. Forever.

The robber had picked up the table Kyuhyun and I had been hiding behind. He grinned, picked up his gun and aimed it as us. I was too frozen to move. I couldn’t even if I tried.

Everything happened in a blink of an eye.

At the same time the robber pulled the trigger, Kyuhyun had shoved the table towards him. The table knocked him down and the gun was pointed at my father.

Kyuhyun and I began running towards the exit. He gripped onto my wrists and dashed across broken shards of window glass and lifeless bodies. I heard it then, the sound of the police siren getting nearer to the bank. Thank god, the police were coming! But there was another sound of gunshot. Surprised, I tilted my head around, wanting to make sure that my father was alright and that he could hang on for just a few more seconds until the police arrived. Hope for the safety of my father was starting to grow. But when I turned around,

I couldn’t feel anything anymore.

I couldn’t feel my legs. I couldn’t hear the demands Kyuhyun was shouting at me to run faster. I couldn’t see the police car coming into view.

 I simply couldn’t feel anything anymore.

Because, there right on the floor was my father’s lifeless body amongst all the other bloodied bodies. All I could see was the robber pointing his gun at my father and then pulling the trigger a couple of times, again and again.

My father’s body jerked after each bullet went through him. Blood, there was blood everywhere. I froze on the spot. I felt Kyuhyun trying to pull me away but I didn’t want to move. Not even when the robber caught sight of me. He pointed his gun at me and still, I didn’t want to move. I held my breath. I wanted to be wherever my father was at. If he was dead, then I wanted to be dead too.

But Kyuhyun, Kyuhyun pulled me away. He grasped my arms hard and yanked me aside. The police arrived and cornered every exit of the bank. They pulled Kyuhyun and I away from the mess. The robber held up his hands in defeat and all of a sudden, everything was over.

The robber was caught.

But it didn’t matter. It wouldn’t matter.

Because, he who killed everyone else was still alive and my father who had wanted Kyuhyun and I to be safe… Was dead.
