Coffee To-Go

Description

Jongdae's long since made a name for himself as the flirty barista at one of the downtown coffee shops, but when a small blond with dimples walks in and stops him dead in his tracks, he makes it a habit to hide in the back room whenever the blond comes in for his coffee.

Foreword

(( Very short drabble I wrote for one of my darling friends ^^ ))

"The way you flirt is shameless." Jongdae looked back over his shoulder at the blue haired male, cracking a grin before turning to the next customer in line and gave the brunet in line one of his usual pick up lines that resulted in a blush covering her cheeks as she held out her credit card with a shaky hand. The line died down ten minutes later, Jongdae turning to face the other barista as he leaned back against the counter.

"You're gonna get fired."

"We both know that the boss would never fire me because it's my flirting that brings in half of the business we get," he laughed. Wonshik rolled his eyes before nodding his head toward the register to signal that there was someone needing to be helped and Jongdae put on his usual playful smile before turning and opening his mouth, only for it to hang open rather that spit out some pick up line. He stared at the short blond haired boy on the other side of the counter who simply smiled back and stood patiently while Jongdae tried to collect himself.

"W-what would you like?" he managed after a few tries, doing his best to ignore the feel on Wonshik's eyes on him, as well as the fact that is was his own hand that was shaking when he returned the card to the customer, who has just started to turn and head to the pick up area when Jongdae all but ran into the back room, hands coming up to try and cool his burning cheeks.

"Why is he so attractive?" Jongdae muttered, not noticing the blue haired male who was standing behind him in the store room.

"Dude, you flirt with every girl that walks in, why are you freaking out about that guy?" Wonshik asked, the brunet turning to face him.

"Did you see him?"

"Yeah."

"Then how is that even a question?" Jongdae asked and Wonshik sighed, rubbing his face with his hand.

The next day started out like any other, and other than Jongdae running into the back room to hide when the blond came into the cafe again it was a normal day, leaving Wonshik to take the others order and make it. The fourth day in a row Wonshik noticed the sad glint in the blond's eyes as he seemed to catch into the fact that Jongdae was blatantly avoiding him.

"Here's your card back, I'll have that out to you in a few minutes," the blue haired male said, offering the card. He noticed that the blond was raised up on the balls of his feet, trying to peer past Wonshik into the back room.

"I'm not sure what I did to upset the other barista, but can you tell him I'm sorry and would like to try and make up for it? Do you know what I did?" he asked, Wonshik resisting the urge to sigh. Picking up another cup he scribbled a few digits onto it, offering it to the other.

"I think it would be best for Jongdae to tell you why he's avoiding you himself." he said as the blond took the cup, examine the mobile number before making his way down the counter to the pick up station.

Jongdae's eyes opened half way when a familiar ringing sounded and he closed his eyes again, stretching while he held his breath, letting it out in a sigh. He reached for his mobile, dismissing his alarm before he sat up, yawning and running a hand through his messed up curls, frowning a little when his mobile went off again. Looking to the device he cocked an eyebrow at the unknown number, selecting answer and holding it to his ear.

"Hello?"

"Is this Jongdae?" Something seemed familiar about the voice and Jongdae fell silent as he tried to place it. "My name is Yixing. I came into the cafe you work at a few days ago and I think I did something to upset you. You always leave the counter when I walk in and once I saw you come out of the back room after I was headed to the door to leave. Please tell me what I did wrong so I can make it up to you."

"You freaked me out." The words tumbled out of his mouth before he could think, and one of his hands came up to cover his face.

"I... Freak you out?" the other replied slowly, and Jongdae fought back a groan as the urge to hang up and quit his job, perhaps move to a new city because as far as he could tell that was going to end a lot better than the conversation.

"Y-yeah... Most people that come in are really tired or antsy and in a hurry, but.. You had this really calm personality, a-and you're really cute when you smile and I didn't know how to deal with it," he rambled, pausing when he needed to breathe, though it caught in his throat when Yixing giggled.

"You think I'm cute?"

"Did I say that?"

"You did." Jongdae felt his cheeks begin to burn and he swallowed hard when the other giggled again. "Do you work today?"

"N-No, I'm off for the next two days," the brunet admitted.

"I'd like to meet you. Since you work in a coffee shop, you probably don't want to go out for coffee. So how about lunch?" Jongdae felt his heart try to lodge itself in his throat and it took him several tries to respond.

"I run from you when I see you, and you're asking me on a date?"

"You seem to only have ran because you think I'm cute."

"What makes you think I wont run away again?" Jongdae asked, hearing the other hum as he thought.

"I think I can give you a reason to stay."
