In the remains of what was once known as North and South Korea, stands a new country built from its ruins, Sangseung. The Capital, a shinning city build in what was once Seoul, is where it's government resides, surrounded by 12 outlining districts. Years ago, these districts, lead by a once 13th, rebelled against The Capitol. They were defeated, leaving 13 in ashes. In penance for this defiance, it was agreed every year, each district would offer up one boy and girl to take part in an annual nationally televised competition known as "The Victory Games". Essentially a fight to the death on live TV. 16 year old Ahn Heesun who lives with her grandmother, two cousins, and younger brother, must except her imminent death as she leaves behind her life of providing for her family when she is forced to represent her district in this year's games...but no matter what she may face, what rules change, or what the audience thinks...one thing she can't deny: It takes as much strength to kill, as it does to survive.
