Foreword

Woo Jin put down his book and gazed at her sleeping face. Like so many times before, again she had fallen asleep on his lap while watching the TV. No words could describe the happiness he was feeling when having her there, all to himself. A cunning smile spread on Woo Jin's lips as he leaned forward and planted a kiss on the corner of her mouth. And she smiled back at him in her sleep, her hand grabbing tightly on his.

I wonder how I found you
Maybe I lived a kind life
Maybe luck comes once in a while
You're my present

One day long ago

It was the weirdest thing. No, things like that don't happen in real life, never. Yet, on a small island, at a small ferry port, in a very small hotel, the only one open at that time, it happened. It was fate. Two people hit their hands onto the check in counter yelling in one voice: "One room please!" Both out of breathe, their faces red and sweat running down their temples. It was their only opinion, the last chance. It was getting late, dark and cold and all other places were full.

"Sorry..."
Their both faces fell in disappointment. This couldn't be true.
"We only have one room left."
Sun Mi flipped her hair and turned to look at the man beside herself. Woo Jin bit his lower lip as he turned to look at the woman beside himself. Their eyes met and their faces stiffened.

"Omo" Woo Jin grabbed his stomach. "I am feeling sick again, I think I will faint soon" he faked a cry of pain.
"Aigoo" Sun Mi coughed loudly. "My sickness is getting worse" she grabbed her head.
"Ah" Woo Jin pretended to fall against the counter and breathed heavily. "I am fainting."
"My fever is getting worse."
"I feel like I am going to throw up."
"My head is splitting in two."
"Okay, let's drop it" Woo Jin suddenly straightened up and shifted his glance at the lady behind the counter. "Baby, I am taking the room" he winked.
"No, he is just flirting and giving you wrong hopes. Give the room to me instead, I'm a lot nicer." Sun Mi pushed Woo Jin out of the way. "Besides, what kind of gentleman steals the last loom from a lady, eh?" she eyed him with disgust.
"Tsh, I..." Suddenly Woo Jin's mind cleared. "I am not a gentleman, I am gay" he announced.

All noise died in the lobby and everyone turned to look at him with wide open eyes. Sun Mi's jaw dropped and the lady behind the counter turned tomato red.

"So, we are taking the room" Woo Jin cleared his throat. "Right?" He flashed a fake smile at Sun Mi who stared at him sceptically.
"No wonder your flirting was so awkward..." she mumbled. "Since you are not a man then, I'm okay with it."
A vein popped on Woo Jin's forehead. Not a man? Awkward? But he decided to keep all the irritation inside because he really needed some place to stay this night.
"Are there two beds?"
"No, but it's a king sized bed."
"Is it possible to get another bed?"
"I am very sorry."
Sun Mi and Woo Jin eyed each other trough squinted eyes.
"We girls can share a bed, right?" Sun Mi giggled. 'No freaking way, he is sleeping on the floor' she decided in her mind.

Dropping her bag on the bed Sun Mi stretched and looked around the small room. Practically there was only the bed, a TV and a small table. The window was very small and also dirty, well the price had been cheap. Meanwhile Woo Jin poked his head in the bathroom, it was fairly big with a shower and a bathtub. When he turned back in the room he saw Sun Mi already lying on the bed with her eyes closed.

She was pretty tall for a female, or so he had thought. Now that she took her heals off she was at least a head shorter than him which made her less intimidating. Her hair was a little curly, reaching her shoulders and her bangs almost covered her eyes, she had this weird habit to blow her bangs which irritated him already.

"So, the bed..." Woo Jin spoke, his hands diving into his pants' pockets. Sun Mi opened her eyes and glanced at him.
"Naturally, I get the bed."
"And where will I sleep?" Woo Jin raised a brow.
"Well, there is just enough space on the floor.
Woo Jin's face stiffened. "Will you wash it for me?"
"Why would I?" She turned her back at him. "I need a nap, you do whatever you want."
"Then" Woo Jin smirked. He walked lazily to the bed and sat beside Sun Mi, then kicking his shoes off.
"Yah. You are a man so act like one" she glared at him.
"If you want me to sleep on the floor then give me money?"
"Excuse me?" Sun Mi propped her upper body on her elbows.
"If you get the bed, naturally you pay higher price" Woo Jin shrugged.
"You know, I was one second earlier at the counter." Sun Mi furrowed her brows.
"Because you tripped me at the door!" Woo Jin shrieked. "You insolent woman!"
"Tsh" Sun Mi scoffed. "Yah, how old are you? 17? How dare you speak to me with such disrespect?"

Looking dully at her, Woo Jin took out his wallet and showed her his driver's license. "I am 27 years old and a lawyer" he said proudly. "The name is Choi Woo Jin."
Sun Mi seemed to shrink a little.
"And you? Miss?"
"29 and a... executive director at my own company" Sun Mi whispered.
"Do I look stupid?" Woo Jin raised a brow.
"Fine" Sun Mi took out her student ID. "23 years old and a law student. Kang Sun Mi" she mumbled.
"A law student?" Woo Jin asked with interested voice. "Which university?"
"Chung Ang. Wait! Why do you want to know?"
"Well" Woo Jin brought his left knee to his chest and put his arm over it, leaning his cheek against his arm. That's the university he had graduated from. What a coincidence. "I would like to know what is a student doing at a place like this when she is supposed to be in her class right now."
"Not your business" Sun Mi mumbled looking away from him. Remembering about the reason why she even came to this damned island made her want to cry.
"Okay, since I am older I get the bed" Woo Jin smirked.
"What? Not fair" Sun Mi blew her cheeks. "But you are a guy."
"Gay" Woo Jin corrected. "So we are on the same line." He lied on the bed and grabbed the remote, turning on the TV.
"Aish, do whatever you want. Stupid ahjussi" Sun Mi stood up and slipped her feet in her heels.
"If you are going grocery shopping can you buy me a soda?" Woo Jin asked.
"NO!"
"I'll give you some extra cash."
Sun Mi was short on money at the moment. "Why not?" She plastered a fake smile on her face before turning to look at Woo Jin. It's funny what money makes us do.
"Good kid" he chuckled tossing a crumbled bill at her.
"You have one hour to take a shower, change your clothes and take a dump, ahjussi. I hope you have done it all before I come back" Sun Mi said proudly before walking out from the room.
"Take a dump?" Woo Jin raised a brow. "She is kind of cute" he chuckled.

After finding out about his grandma's health getting worse, Sun Mi's boyfriend decided to take a beak from studying, take up some volunteer work at the island and stay there with his grandma. Or that's what Sun Mi had been told to. During his stay he had hardly contacted her and then he asked her to come by. She did, even skipping school and overlooking her duties as a student council secretary.

Sun Mi decided to surprise him and come one day early. That was a mistake or maybe, even for the better. She saw him with a guy, hugging, kissing and holding hands. It was a total shock to her, if it had been a girl then... But a guy? Not bothering to say or do anything she had just walked away from the scene. It was her bad luck the last ferry had already left.

After taking a walk around the ferry port, Sun Mi went to buy some snacks at the nearby grocery store and then she headed back to the hotel. Sharing a room with a stranger in this state of mind didn't exactly attract her but she had no other opinions. It was her luck he turned out gay. Though, at the moment she really hated gays.

"Hey!" Sun Mi's eyes widened when she stepped in the room and saw Woo Jin with only towel wrapped around his waist, going trough his bag.
"What? You are three minutes early" he said coolly, glancing at his wrist watch and then his eyes darted at embarrassed Sun Mi. He smirked.
"Whatever, there is nothing to see anyway..." Sun Mi mumbled as she walked in, too embarrassed to look at him anymore. "Ahjussi, you are getting old aren't you?"
"I'm not that old..." Woo Jin frowned as he watched her walk to the bed and slump on it next to his bag. Was it his imagination or does she look depressed?
"I'm not really this rude" Sun Mi mumbled "I'm just having a bad day."
"Don't worry. Ahjussi will forgive you since you are still young" Woo Jin joked. "So, why are you in a bad mood?"
"Guys, you know..." Sun Mi sighed.
Woo Jin raised a brow "What about guys?"
"They are annoying, aren't they? Every single of them is such a b.astard" Sun Mi hissed with venom in her voice.
"Right..." Woo Jin gave her a weird look, but since she wasn't looking she didn't know. He quickly dressed up while they were talking.
"So, do you have a boyfriend?" Sun Mi suddenly asked.
"What? Yah! Do I look..." Woo Jin grew quiet and cleared his throat. "At the moment, no." he said quietly, running his hand trough his hair. He better keep up the gay act or he will surely get kicked out of the only hotel room available at the hotel, and whole island.

"Have you ever got your heart broken?"

A bittersweet smile spread on Woo Jin's lips as he heard her words. He stayed quiet for a while and sat down beside Sun Mi, she felt the mattress sink a little.
"Yeah..."
"How did you get over it?" Sun Mi asked with wavering voice. She felt tears already burn her eyes, the tears she had held in for the whole day.
"It took me some time, many sleepless nights and a lot of crying" Woo Jin chuckled softly as he remembered his own sullen state when his previous girlfriend had dumped him.
"So you were the woman in the relationship?" Sun Mi moved her head so she could see his face.
"Yah" Woo Jin looked at her dully. "I don't like women, why would I want to be one?"
"You are right, I don't want to be one either. I wish I was a guy..."
"Hold on" Woo Jin caught on pretty fast. "He turned out to be gay?" He wanted to burst out in laughter but managed to hold it all in. Who in the world gets this unlucky?
"He could have just told me earlier. How could he be so careless as to let me witness it all? I bet he called me to come here just to break out the news. And I was looking forward this meeting so much..."
"There there" Woo Jin pat her head, knowing her pain and pitying her.
"Ahjussi, I'm so sad" Sun Mi sobbed. "Can you please leave and let me cry by myself for a while?"
"You don't want that, trust me" Woo Jin whispered with a smile on his lips, his gentle fingers sinking into Sun Mi's hair. Silently, he handed her a few more tissues and pat her back, while she continued lying on her stomach and crying her heart out. Somehow, his quiet presence comforted Sun Mi and when she looked at him he flashed her an encouraging smile.

"Ahjussi" she wailed. "It hurts."
"I know. I know" he whispered, his warm hand rubbing her back. "Just go to sleep and forget about it."
Sun Mi stuck her hand in the pocket of her pants and took out a small charm, she handed it to Woo Jin.
"What's this?" his brows arched as he brought the small key chain closer to his face. It was covered in small letters. Whoever made it must have spent many hours trying to sew those letters.
"I made it."
"This?" his head turned at Sun Mi.
"You can have it" she sobbed.
"No, I ca-"
"Take it" she grunted.
"Okay, I will cherish it" he chuckled. "Don't cry."

Next morning, when Woo Jin sat up he felt something tug on the hem of his shirt. With his sleepy eyes he turned to look at Sun Mi who was lying beside him, grabbing onto his shirt tightly. His facial features softened, how cute and serene her sleeping face looked.

"Hey, princess, wake up" he ruffled her hair and yawned. "Let's go eat breakfast."
Sun Mi smiled in her sleep. "Ah, Kang Min, I missed you so much" she mumbled.
Woo Jin's eyes widened in surprise when she grabbed his hand.
"I love you too."
His heart skipped a beat. Sun Mi inched closer and snuggled against him.
"Y-y-ah" he breathed out, surprised by his own nervous reaction. "Wake up."
Sun Mi frowned when the comforter was thrown off her and chilliness of the morning kissed her skin.
"I don't want to" she opened one eye and groaned. "Why is it that the first thing I see on this beautiful morning is some old gay ahjussi's face?"
"Excuse me? Who listened to your problems yesterday?"
"I never asked you to do that" Sun Mi turned her back at him.
"The first ferry is leaving in one hour."
"I'll just stay here."
Woo Jin covered his forehead with his hand in despair. Why was he even trying, huh?
"Okay then, I will go brush my teeth and leave then. I was just thinking maybe you want a ride to Seoul but if you don't then suit yourself" Woo Jin said lazily as he stood up and ruffled his hair. But damn, she looked so adorable in the morning.

Thinking about Woo Jin's offer, Sun Mi lied on the bed a little longer. And the more she thought about it the more she wanted to accept it. It would be so much easier to just get a ride home instead of waiting for several buses, she didn't even know the timetables. So, throwing the covers off herself she rushed to the bathroom with her toothbrush in her hand.

"Hey!" Woo Jin gasped when she kicked the door open and stepped in. Again, he was wearing only a towel and this time it was a little embarrassing.
"Move" Sun Mi bumped her waist into his. "I need to brush my teeth too."
"So you changed your mind?" Woo Jin raised a brow.
"Don't worry, I will pay you for the ride if you take me all the way to my dorms."
"Who said I still want to take you?"
"You will ahjussi, you will" Sun Mi smiled smugly. "You are too nice to decline." She looked at Woo Jin trough the mirror and her eyes widened upon sudden realization. Woo Jin gave her a weird look when she turned her head to stare at his body.
"Whoa!" she exclaimed, foam flying all over from her mouth. "You are pretty hot!" Yesterday she had been too bummed to notice.
Woo Jin flinched and dropped his toothbrush in the sink, his cheeks flustering a little.
"Don't worry" Sun Mi flashed him an encouraging smile and pat his chest. "Some lucky guy will surely claim you" her eyes darted down to his abs and she clicked her tongue. "Do you live at the gym or something? Darn, you are so sexy..."
"Get out" Woo Jin pushed her out of the bathroom. "Pervert."
'He is kind of cute' Sun Mi smiled at the closed bathroom door. 'Maybe we could become friends?'

When Woo Jin came out of the bathroom he saw Sun Mi lie on the bed, fully dressed and her bag was standing on the floor packed and ready.
"Get up, let's go" Woo Jin sat on the bed and started putting on his shoes.
"I don't know. I started to feel sleepy all of a sudden" Sun Mi rubbed her eyes and yawned.
"Don't start that again" Woo Jin frowned. "Will you stay here and cry your eyes off again?"
"I need some of that."
"No you don't. Crying won't help at all" Woo Jin insisted. "Come on, you don't have to pay me for giving you a ride."
"How about we go meet my ex-boyfriend now? Let's pretend we are dating so I can flaunt you to him to make him jealous. His boyfriend wasn't even that hot."

Woo Jin shook his head in frustration. Making the mattress sink lower, he moved closer to Sun Mi and grabbing her shoulder, he turned her on her back.
"Get up..." A smile suddenly tugged the corners of his lips up. "You look like a panda."
Her eyes widened. "What did you expect after that crying?!"
"Stupid" Woo Jin pinched her nose. "How do pandas look like?"
Sun Mi gave him a weird look.
"Get up" he laughed by himself.
"What do you mean?"
"You can think about it on the way back." Woo Jin stood up, straightened his clothes and grabbed his bag. "You coming?"

As Sun Mi stared at his confident profile, she suddenly got this feeling she should go with him. He looked like he was in a wonderful mood and being around him could just cheer her up. Slowly she got off the bed and giving her a cheery smile Woo Jin grabbed her bag. Sun Mi thought he looked pretty handsome in black slacks, white collar shirt and gray cardigan. Now that he had shaved and styled his hair, he looked younger too.

"I can carry it" she insisted, trailing after him to the elevator.
"No problem" Woo Jin smirked. "But why is it so heavy? Did you pick some rocks as souvenirs because you are so broke?"
"I said I can carry it" Sun Mi frowned.
"Just joking" Woo Jin's smile was gentle. He thought her frustrated face was cute beyond words.
"Aish" Sun Mi rubbed her forehead when they stepped in the elevator. She glanced at Woo Jin who leaned coolly on the wall. "Hey, gay ahjussi" she called out softly.
"What?" Woo Jin looked at her dully.
"Give me a hug" she smirked.
"Not when you have that perverted look on your face" Woo Jin joked, sticking out the tip of his tongue.

She pouted, showing him her best puppy eyes. Woo Jin chuckled. Without another word he stretched out his arms and scooped her in a hug. Sun Mi's heart skipped a beat when her face came in contact with his clean and fragrant shirt. It was more comfortable than she had expected, his wonderful hug. As her eyes were about to close and her hands about to wrap around his waist the elevator's doors slid open and an elderly couple stared at them in surprise.

"Don't worry" Sun Mi quickly pulled away from the hug, pushing Woo Jin so hard he almost fell on his butt. "He is gay so we were not doing anything weird."
The couple's eyes fell over Woo Jin who stared back at them wide eyed, shocked and embarrassed. In an eerie silence the doors closed and the elevator went down, leaving the couple on their level. Woo Jin glared at Sun Mi.
"What?" she shrugged.

After eating the breakfast Sun Mi went to buy some drinks and snacks for the ride while Woo Jin went to get his car. Then they met up at the hotel entrance and left for the ferry. To Woo Jin's surprise and horror Sun Mi had actually bought a lot of soju. She said she really needed to drink and there was really nothing else to do on the 4 hour ride home. Woo Jin suggested they should talk, insisting that would help her get over her sorrow but Sun Mi said she was too annoyed to talk about anything, so she drank.

The ride went well, except they had to stop every 20 minutes for Sun Mi to pee. And at some point she got so drunk she started singing, it was so horrible poor Woo Jin got migraine. Then she started asking him all kind of questions about gays he had no idea how to answer. He just said whatever came to his mind, mostly telling the truth about himself but it was a mistake because Sun Mi kept nodding and saying it sounded so gay. In the end Sun Mi started talking about the meaning of life, aliens, love and then finally she fell asleep. No matter how much Woo Jin tried to wake her up and ask where to take her, he failed. She was totally out of it. So he took her to his apartment.

Naturally Woo Jin had no idea about Sun Mi's sleepwalking habits. He had just turned off the lights and slipped between his silky sheets when the door opened and Sun Mi walked in. To his horror she was wearing only her underwear. How and why did she take off her clothes still remains a mystery but Woo Jin suspected it happened because it was hot and he actually forgot to turn on air con in her room.

When she climbed in his bed and snuggled against him, her tiny arms wrapping around his waist he felt blood rush to his cheeks. No, how could he let her go after all this? He suddenly wanted to have her all to himself and never share with anyone. She was so adorable and pretty. Feeling certain tension raise there Woo Jin bit his lower lip, his heart beating wildly. He quickly took off his tee and put it on Sun Mi. Then he hugged her closer, placing her head on his shoulder he felt cold shivers run down his spine.

A satisfied smile spread on Woo Jin's lips. He smelled Sun Mi's hair as he pressed his cheek against it and let out a sigh. Knowing very well that next morning this magical moment would be over, she will leave and they will never meet again. He closed his eyes, soon drifting to sleep. It has never been easier, to fall asleep next to someone.

Next day at the office a surprise was waiting for Woo Jin.
"What is this?" he asked his secretary, placing a few papers on her desk. "I am too busy for this kind of things" he complained, being in the worst mood.
"But you are the best candidate for this. No one else comes along with different people as well as you do, hon" his secretary giggled. "It will be fun, trust me. By the way, here is the list of the students."
"Damn, I have several cases piling up and now I'll be stuck with some student's practical training. Give me that." He grabbed the paper from his secretary's hand.
"Geez, what's eating you today? Just choose the cutest girl" she joked. "Or then a cute guy for me. Number 5 is fiiine!"
"Huh?" Woo Jin's brows arched. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Sun Mi's picture. "Numbed 10, that's final." He suddenly slammed the list on his secretary's desk. "In four months you said?" he smirked.
"What's the change in the attitude?" the secretary asked in surprise, her eyes searching for the number 10.
"Just wait, she will be mine" Woo Jin mumbled while walking away. 'I hope 4 months is enough for you to get over him because then, I won't let you go no matter what' he thought while fiddling with his keys and the key chain she had given him.

Their meeting. It must have been fate.

When Sun Mi woke up she got a fright because she wasn't wearing her pants. But then she sighed in relief when she realized she was sleeping alone. Besides, even if Woo Jin had seen her then so what? He is gay, anyway. There was a yellow sticky note on the night table.

I had to go to work. If you are hungry you can eat anything from the fridge. And if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call me. It was fun meeting you. And by the way, why don't you call me oppa instead of ahjussi? I'm not that old, you know...

Sun Mi grabbed the note and brought it closer to her face, staring at his phone number. She pondered for a while whether she should copy and keep it but decided against it. Why would she? If only he wasn't gay maybe then... She was afraid she might start liking him a bit too much. A sigh escaped her lips.

Sun Mi quickly dressed up, took her bag and walked to the front door. Not even thinking to leech off him any more than she already had. Once more she turned to look over his spacious and stylish apartment. She got this weird feeling she would be coming over again but ignored it.

"Thanks for everything" she spoke softly. "Woo Jin oppa." And her heart skipped a strange beat when she said his name. Somehow he had made her feel so much better and now Sun Mi felt a little sad when she thought they'd never meet again. Well, who knows.

Maybe one day.
