How will two people call it a . . . ‘World of Our Own” . . . when they are two worlds apart?

- Inspired by the OG, Meteor Garden

Foreword

His right hand clutched the part of his shirt where his heart was. His heart that was producing a very loud, ringing sound that could bieat the campus’ fire alarm. All his dreams were finally coming true while he adjusted his 6 year-old, seemed to be washed out silver-ish eyeglasses. He waited for somebody to open that door for him, and when it finally did . . . the young namja stepped inside the room with a proud and elated face despite the nervousness seeping all over his body as he stood in front of what they all called – elites.

He was all smiles.

They were all for grimace.

The professor, whom he could read from his school’s ID had only the initials, PSY, took the paper from his hand and read, “Okay, class. We have a transferee from . . . hmm . . . Mokpo,” The teacher squinted his eyes at the school form like it was an essay with a very ugly handwriting submitted to him. “Mokpo Province? Err. Lee Soo Man Medical School?”

“Yes, sir.” He immediately nodded in delight as his hands held onto the strap of his faded black backpack since high school. He was kinda regretting that he didn’t bring his jacket for he was already freezing with the way the air conditioner seemed to be to its maximum Titanic’s iceberg level despite his new immaculately white long sleeves uniform.

Professor PSY gave him a scrutinizing look from head to toe. “Why don’t you say some things about you to your classmates? You know you’re two months late unlike them who almost knew each other for quite some time now.”

“Deh.” He gave a 180-degree bow to the professor who seemed surprised with what he did. He walked near the center and bowed down in front of the bunch of people who were already giving him a wry look.

“Annyeonghaesayo! Chonun Lee Donghae imnida! It’s nice meeting you all.” Donghae was smiling so bright like the mighty sun that was why he couldn’t see the stormy look on their faces. “I’m 24 years old. I was born in Mokpo Province. I took B.S. Nursing as my Pre-Med's Bachelor Degree. Lee Soo Man Medical School was a very good school despite the facilities that it lacked. I had kind hearted teachers who were always ready to help me and reliable classmates who pulled me up when BioChemistry was taking me down. I also finished my first year of M.D there.” He chuckled on his own. “But YG University . . . This . . . This is my dream school ever since I was a high schooler. Now, my goal is to become a Doctor of Medicine, Specializing in Internal Medicine with the Sub-specialty of Neurology. I am here in front of you all with the same dream that you guys have.” This was dream. His dream school. His parents’ dream. “To be a doctor and to be the hero that we can truly be. I hope we can all be friends and we can survive the remaining years together and throw that graduation cap so high with dignity. That’s all. It’s really nice meeting you all!”

.           .           .           .           .           .

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

A girl named Krystal was looking at him in so much disgust evident on her face as another girl whispered to her side that he could see on her ID as Hyuna.

“Ooookay!” Professor PSY clapped his hands awkwardly as he glanced at the transferee beside him who he was considering as the most bizarre thing that could happen in the year 2016. “Uhm. You may sit down now, Donghae ssi.”

“Thank you, sir.” He bowed again.

“Okay. Open your book on page 179. Second paragraph. Third sentence. You can see there that the . . .”

Donghae was so eager to sit down and listen to his professor discussed his first lesson on Psychiatry II. He had to catch up with everything he missed in that subject or the subjects that will come later on. Everything that was discussed in those two months! It was only 9 in the morning. His first subject. Actually, he’d be staying in that room for the next 7 hours.

He really needed so bad to find some place warm. His eyes were fixed at the room’s ventilator above a very huge human anatomy’s chart. It felt like it was his lucky day when he saw that a chair at the very back near the glass windows was vacated. He had always believed that a chair near the windows and at the very corner was the best place to sit on. Donghae almost ran to get there; he knew that sitting in that chair would change his life.

YG University.

Every med students’ dream school.

Even non-med’s dream school.

To be able to sit in one of its highly cost classroom and listen to one of the finest professor in the country . . .

He searched for his notebook on that subject and took the ballpen hung near his buttons. Donghae bowed down near his desk and began writing the date. He loved writing dates on when taking down notes. His left hand went to that page Professor PSY just said and he scanned the first to second paragraph quickly. Okay. Professor was talking about . . . Wait. What is he talking about again?

He felt weird with the sudden, racking silence that took over the room. Well, it was one thing for the students to be quiet and listen but even Professor PSY’s voice was . . . gone?

Donghae looked up to the front and was shocked to see that all of them were staring at him with their jaws dropped and eyes about to leave their sockets. He felt like they were seeing a ghost that was clinging onto his back just like that in the film, Shutter. Eh? He heard Professor PSY cleared his throat and was giving him a veeeery alarmed look. What’s wrong?

He forced a very awkward smile as he adjusted his glasses to see if he wasn’t just imagining the amount of trepidation in everyone’s faces.

What?

Donghae slowly looked at his back and saw a frame with South Korea’s flag on the wall. He went back to the front and was about to ask what was wrong when the corner of his eyes caught something on his right and that was when he only noticed.

Her.

A girl who had her hair shaved to the side. Who was wearing black shiny pants, high-heeled black boots, and a red tube top with a dramatic coat of  . . . was that an animal fur? Donghae just blinked her eyes at the girl who was staring at him with a not so amused or should I say, deadly look.

It felt like a decade before he could move on from that. “A-annyeonghaesayo.” Donghae introduced himself with a low voice and bowed courteously at his classmate. “I’m Donghae, a transferee. You are?” His right hand automatically reached out to her front, waiting.

A loud sound of a book falling from the professor’s hand was heard and nothing more.

.           .           .           .           .           .

“You can’t sit there.”

A whisper but he heard it loud and clear. His head slowly turned to the guy seated in front of him, named Siwon who already bowed his head after glancing at the girl beside him.

You can’t sit there?

You.

Can’t.

Sit.

There.

“Oh!”

It was as if a snake bit him when he stood from that chair, took his notebook and bag and bowed nervously at the girl. “M-mianhaeyo. Is this seat taken? I didn’t-” But she put her earphones back on her ears and began scrolling something on her Iphone 6S. “Know.” His voice faded and eyes looked back to the front. Professor PSY cleared his throat again, picked up the book and began showing something on the screen. The lights in the room were turned off as a video about a certain mental patient in Korea was being interviewed.

Donghae looked back at the chair he vacated and stared at the chair on the girl’s right. It was emptied too. He smiled in relief and was about to pull the chair when he saw another guy in front of it shook his head in warning. Yoochun. It was taken too? He wanted to ask but he knew better with that frantic look. He smiled at the guy and pointed at the seat in front of the girl which was between Siwon and Yoochun. There was no one on it too. But to Donghae’s surprise, the guy gave him an annoyed look and pursed his lips, signaling him to just go at the back of the center aisle.

Donghae followed him like the obedient guy that he is. “Excuse me, Seonsangnim?” He raised a hand that made the teacher looked at him. “Uhm.” He scratched the back of his head. “W-where can I get a chair?”

“Oh.” PSY nodded at him thoughtfully. “You have to make a request at the Window 4 near the Registrar’s office. Maybe later after I discussed our topic.”

“Okay, sir. Kamsahamnida.” He bowed again.

Donghae remained standing there at the back. He listened keenly to everything that each teacher that entered that room discussed. Religiously taken down the important notes. Raised his hands when the teacher asked for anybody to answer or for any supposed smart opinion.

He enjoyed his first day of class.

Almost.

Except for the fact that that his legs and feet were aching pitifully.

Except for the fact that he had been standing in that class for 7 hours straight.

Except for the fact that when the class ended at exact 4 in the afternoon, no student . . . as in no student came and sat on those three emptied chairs.

I really should go to the Window 4. His last thought as his knees gave way to one of the chairs after everyone left the room.

Little did Donghae know as he massaged his legs . . .

That in his dream school is where he would meet his not-so-dream girl.

Chapter 36: I REALLY LOVE THIS STORY ❤️ As much as I want to put comments after every chapter, I just continued clicking the next chapter because the story flow is way too good and I can’t wait to know what will happen next. I really cried on the part where Dara’s dad talked to DH and of course to herself. I don’t know what else to say because I just love everything. This story makes me feel pained, happy and excited. Ughhhhh really just great ❤️❤️❤️
