Description

How do you cover up the ultimate scandal that could ruin the top two idol groups in Korea?  Well, the simple answer is that you cover that up with another scandal of course—a scandal on a smaller scale that is small enough to salvage but big enough to distract the public from the real thing.

Kim Taeyeon had always been a good friend of Kwon Jiyong, but when the two end up getting heartbroken at the same time, they began a damaging “friends with benefits” relationship.  Within two months, Taeyeon ended up pregnant.  After their management companies found out about the news, they were given two options:  disbandment or hoaxing the public by creating a smaller scandal.

Im Yoona and Choi Seunghyun were chosen as the two individuals to create a new scandal to cover up the real thing.  The two were some of the most popular members of their respective groups, so they could easily make a splash without too much effort.  A dating scandal, you say?  That’s too meager in YG and SM’s eyes!  A marriage scandal is the way to go!  To save their groups, the two agree to get married, and with the correct marketing and media play, their goal is to sell themselves as the perfect couple to the public and their fans.

Take a look into what it takes to avoid a huge scandal from breaking out. They say that the view from the front row is the best, but that’s an understatement.  Take a look at the view from behind the curtain.

Foreword

“The update will be up in less than five minutes,” Kim Youngmin stated.

There were so many people cramped up in the SM Entertainment meeting room.  There were executives from YG and SM mixed together.  The Big Bang members were here, and so were mine.  I looked over at Yoona, who had a strong expression on her face.  It was five minutes until they posted the picture on Seunghyun’s Instagram.  I looked over at Seunghyun, who was staring at the ceiling.  They took his phone, and they had just taken pictures of Yoona and Seunghyun.  They framed the whole thing, and if I saw this as a fan, I would think that it was real.

The photo was of Yoona.  She was smiling brightly, and it looked like a picture that Seunghyun had stored on his phone all along.  They hardly knew each other.  They were going to become embroiled in this scandal, and it was my entire fault.  I saw Jiyong trying to talk to Seunghyun.  He was in my shoes; he was trying to talk to in an apologetic way.  I turned to Yoona as she tapped her fingertips against the table.  Gosh, the whole room was chaotic, but I tried to block everyone out.  The SM board was afraid to disband SNSD.  Right now, we were the cash cows along with EXO, and if the public thought that I was pregnant, we were done for.  The board rejoiced when Yoona agreed to it.  In their eyes, a marriage scandal was fixable, but a pregnancy was not.

They were going to make this seem like the love story of the century.  I knew that it seemed farfetched, but I have seen them do it.  I fondly remembered when Taemin’s scandal was almost revealed.  He had gotten a fan pregnant—and he told me that he had fallen in love with her.  Unfortunately, she miscarried, and because SM was afraid that they’d repeat the mistake, they bribed her to go away, and she took it.  Taemin was heartbroken for over a year, but he later told me that what SM Entertainment did for him was a blessing.  He didn’t see her greed, but SM did.

SM Entertainment covered up Taemin’s scandal with contracts and lots of it.  There was a contract for her to never speak of it again, a contract for her to keep away from him, and a contract to avoid anything related to Taemin or SHINee.  If she showed up in a concert, fan meeting, or even 100 feet within his location, there would be a major problem.  They knew what they were doing, and I knew that they could see Seunghyun and Yoona as the perfect couple they could market to the public.

“We’re posting in two minutes,” Yang Hyun Suk stated.

I didn’t think that he liked me much.  Jiyong was his golden child, and when he looked at me, he saw the reason as to why they had to work so hard to cover this up.  I looked away and then made eye contact with Yoona.  Why wasn’t she stopping this?  I tried, and she told me to let it happen.  Was she crazy?

“Yoona, it’s not too late to back out,” I said with urgency, “I don’t want you to give up so much of your life.  We’ll disband, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t keep in touch.  Yoona, please.”

She looked at me, “I made my decision, unnie.  Please respect it.”

“But you don’t know him,” I bit my lip.

“I know him more than you know,” she assured me, “Just let me cover this up for you.”

I felt my world spinning.  I felt like there was so much weight on my back.  Was I really going to let this happen?  I tried to stand up, but Jiyong held me down.  He knew that I was going to try to stop them from posting the first picture that would signify the hoax.

“Post it now,” Lee Sooman ordered.

A staff member nodded and posted the picture onto Seunghyun’s Instagram.  I watched it happen on my own phone.  I went on his page, and I saw the picture of Yoona on his Instagram.  The plan was that they were going to post it and then delete it within 30 seconds to make it look like an accident.  Did that sound familiar?  The IU-Eunhyuk scandal was staged, too.  IU didn’t accidentally post that picture.  She was ordered to.

“Fans are already commenting on his current photos asking why he was with Yoona,” a staff member reported.

I tugged on my hair as I lowered my head.  I heard another staff member announce that Yoona and Seunghyun were the top searches on Twitter and Naver already.  I looked over at Yoona as she forced a smile and squeezed my hand.  I even caught Seunghyun staring at her.

            The show had begun.
