Intro:  A week of whirlwind activities like no other…

Chapter 16   -           1^st Week -  Chaotic Atmosphere…

             Initial Preparation of Kibum’s Birthday Celebration…

Point in time:            Age: Minho 15 and Key - Turning 16…

Location:                   Kim’s Mansion

Day 1 – Discussion on Invited Guests

“Oooisshhh…. Why do I need to this? This is really unnecessary. Mr. Taeyang – where are my parents?”

Taeyang:         They are currently overseas buying things needing for your birthday – you were still asleep
                        when they left and will be back in the afternoon.

                      Kibum:             Oh… Seriously – do they really have to put so much effort? Simple celebration would be
                                              enough?

                     Taeyang:         Bummie, I believe you have been rejecting your parents request to hold a grand
                                             celebration for your birthday every year as far as I can remember for the past 15 years of 
                                             your life’s existence; your parents have been so frustrated and sad. I think this is the right
                                             moment – you need to give in to their wishes.

                     Kibum:             (sighs) hhuuufff… alright… so what am I supposed to do now? My time is open…

Taeyang:         I guess start listing your invited guests…

 Kibum:             ok…that makes sense… I will then…

Later in the afternoon, Kibum’s parents arrived as told. Jessica and Heechul seeing Kibum listing guests have become pretty ecstatically and excitedly happy with the latter’s interest for his upcoming birthday celebration. They purposely postponed their business engagements for the whole week just to arrange Kibum’s party. Jessica calls on Kibum…

Jessica:           (prancing towards Kibum) Sweetie, Daddy and I would like to have a talk with you.

 Kibum:             Hi Mom…Hi Dad… sure Mom… (Embracing Jessica as well as Heechul), (pauses to
                         ask) How was your trip – I hope I didn’t create too much trouble. I know how busy both of
                         you are…

 Heechul:          Son – no worries please. Oh come on now, really. You do not realize what great help you
                         are - Yourself. You have been a great help to us; Your Papa, your mom and me. And
                         this what we are doing – is nothing – absolutely nothing – ok? Goodness son…

 Jessica:           (shaking and pouting her lips) Sweetie – like for 15 years – 15 years; we never get to
                         celebrate your birthday… Every year, I would repeatedly ask that we organize a big party
                         but you always deny my request... hmmpphhh… you wouldn’t know how sad I was
                         feeling way back then… so please just this once…ok … and do not worry – let us handle 
                         it. So Bummie sweetie – no whining and be quiet.

 Kibum:             (smiles when he sees his parents happy) Sure Dad – Mom. Ok so what plans do you
                         have for my party? Care to tell me?

 Jessica:           (hugs and swings Kibum back and forth) Sure, I’ll tell you about the plan. Daddy and I
                         have been discussing for ages (calls on Joonie) – Joonie, kindly!

 Joonie:            Yes Ms. Jessica…

 Jessica:           Please arrange tea for the three of us inside our room. Thank you. Honey and sweetie
                         come – let’s go…

 Kibum:             Mom; by the way, I am already finished commenting as regards business changes for half
                         of your businesses. And Dad regarding your proposal, It’s quite alright – it is a win-win
                         situation unless a drastic change in the stock market value would suddenly occur then it
                         will certainlny create a huge problem but as far as looking at the trend right now – I don’t
                         think the stock market value will go down. Thus, it is safe…

Both Heechul and Jessica look at Kibum’s way – stunned by the latter’s statement and both saying…

“STOP BUMMIE!!”

Heechul:          Honey, I regret allowing him to handle 30% of all our businesses combined. I didn’t realize
                        how serious he is up until months ago...

Jessica:           me too – the fact that I just found out…

Heechul:          (looks at Jessica) What?

 Jessica:           (shakes her head and heaves a sigh) oh my old man – who else by slip of the tongue.
                         Daddy accidentally mentioned that Kibum has been handling some of his businesses –
                         about 25% of Dad’s entire business operations worldwide and Kibum here requested that
                         we must not know as regards his involvement in Dad’s businesses…

                         I was surprised when two years ago, Dad finally decided to lessen my participation in
                         most of his business operations. Hon by the way he said it – he was like beaming,  
                         his smile was like ear to ear. I was so suspicious but he assured me that he can 
                         manage as he has been getting huge help from a very brilliant person.

                         I didn’t know who it was as I didn’t bother to check that Dad’s brilliant person is Kibum.
                         Sorry Hon – I was about to let you know but I forgot it due to this activity. Sorry Honey…

 Heechul:          Oh my god, son! How on earth can you manage them? That’s more than a thousand
                         number of businesses, are you kidding me? That covers the entire businesses of your 
                         mom and mine's. No wonder, you are always nowhere to be found when we look for
                         you… I am not surprised anyway at all. Hmm…

 Jessica:           your hmmm…. Is rather suspicious…

 Heechul:          Like Mother, Like Son…

 Jessica:           (smacks Heechul’s head) is that a compliment or a way of telling us that we are both
                         weird people...Heechul!

 Heechul:          Aaawww… (Rubs his head and lovingly smiles at Jessica) Honey – oh you know you’ve
                         got all… almost nearing perfect and our son here gets the most of your genes than
                         mine… so what can I say – (in a loud voice…) I AM SO JEALOUS!!

 Kibum:             (chuckles over his parents’ silliness) Oh Dad, Mom – you are both crazy…

Jessica:           (looks at the whining Heechul) Sweetie, look at your dad, he is getting your Papa’s
                        condition…eeewwwww….

 Kibum:             yeah…such abnormalities… hehehe

 Jessica:           I agree… hmmmm Honey

 Heechul:          hhmmphhh….

 Jessica:           we're here…

So the three of them gathered on the table…

Heechul:          Son, do you the list of your invited guests?

 Kibum:             yes dad. I guess 200 of them plus my important guests the Choi’s Family plus I don’t
                         know a number of their own side relatives – if they want…

Jessica:           Of course – how could we forget Leeteuk, Sooyoung, Minho and Taemin including the
                         household members and relatives are just fine but how about the 200 - are these your
                         friends…?

 Kibum:             Oh no Dad – Mom. The 200 guests refer to the total number of students in the school I
                         am attending. I need to invite them not for the reason that I am acquainted with them but it
                         is mainly because they do know me; so I believe that when this news comes out regarding
                         the huge celebration of my party and I only invite some of them, I might hurt those who
                         will not be invited.

                         If you know what I mean and most of these students are children of people who know who
                         both of you are and vice versa. 

 Jessica:           (opens mouth to say) aaaahhh… clever…very clever…

 Heechul:          yeah… I didn’t even realize that…but son is it alright if we invite common friends and
                         some, you know, people from the business circle and some other, you know -  VIPs; your
                         mom and I were discussing it on our way here – to ask your permission. It is pretty
                         unavoidable – they know you and they were even excited when we informed them the
                         reason of our week-off. Could we?

 Kibum:             Oh Dad-Mom; it is not a problem. I know that it will surely come to this. It is pretty
                         inevitable you know – I’d probably do the same if I were on your shoes. So no need to 
                         worry…

Heechul hugs Kibum while Jessica kisses the latter’s cheeks. Each saying…

“Sweetie you are so sweet… really we are so lucky to have you…”

“Son, you are so incredible and mature for such a young age. I am so proud of you”

Kibum:             (breathing deeply due to Heechul’s hug) uurrghhh… Dad, not too tight….aahhh

Jessica:           Honey, you are hurting our baby…

                      Heechul:          (grins) oopps…sorry…

Kibum:             uugghh… you two really… so, how many guests are we talking about here?

Both Jessica and Heechul in an embarrassing condition and almost to a whisper voice say…

“About a couple of thousand”

Kibum:             (so shocked) wwwwhhhaattt!! (Falls on his chair)… ooucchh…

 Jessica:           (clasping her hands then playing with her thumbs in circular motion while mouthing in a
                         pout way) Sweetie… it is your dad and mine’s list combined – that’s why. Here let us tell
                         you (rapidly but sweetly explaining):

                         For your relatives worldwide, we have around 500 of them…hhmm… and they said they
                         will arrange their own transport travel, etc…

                         Within the business circle worldwide not involve in our companies, around 1000 over
                         guests – but no need to worry they will manage their own travel itinerary and means of
                         transportation – so also, we don’t need to worry about that…

                         For the dignitaries worldwide, more than a 1000 guests… hmmm still unsure whether it
                         would be a greater or lesser – anyway, no worries – they told us they will manage
                         everything among themselves…so no problemo…

                         Friends and acquaintances, we have a lot too …Hhmmm… bummie, sweetie….

 Heechul:          (looking at Kibum’s shocked face and persistently justifies the reason) Son, look at it this
                         way – this celebration is an accumulated hopes and wishes “to hold a party” for you.
                         Every year they would ask us if a party would be held and upon learning that it would not
                         be happening – everyone became seriously frustrated. I mean, I guess you understand
                         our side Bummie…

 Kibum:             (in quiet condition – hums) hmmm… alright I get it now. It is fine…

In chorus Kibum’s parents say…

“YES!!!”

So the day ended with number of guests Kibum and his parents agreed to be invited…
