SM High was an elitist school, which set themselves apart from the rest of the population, both in wealth and academic scores. They were the top of the top, and having graduated from SM High guaranteed you a job wherever you wished. It was a dream school, and all wished to enter, be it by maintaining the highly expensive tuition, or by winning the very scarce scholarships.

People figured that once you were in, things would be perfect, but few knew that on the inside, there was still even more elitist separation. Students were divided into classes by how smart or influential they – or their parents – were. That created a lot of tension between the students, and a lot of discrimination against the lower classes. From ‘A’ class to ‘E’ class, the difference was stunning.

‘A’ Students and ‘E’ students just couldn’t blend. There were social ranks, and even though nothing was said by the faculty of the school, the students themselves made it very clear that ‘E’ class were the worst of the worst. ‘A’ class students wanted nothing to do with people who were ‘C’ or less. They were too good for those inferior students.

‘E’ class still consisted of very wealthy families, and very smart kids; On their graduation record, none of those classes business mattered, as they were still graduates from SM High, and everyone still wanted to work with them; but while inside the school grounds, the difference was apparent.

Sehun was a student from ‘E’ class. He worked hard, his grades were good. They were above average, and if class placement was judged by grades alone –which the school claimed to be the case, despite all knowing it wasn’t – he would be in a higher grade, ‘C’, or even ‘B’. But money and reputation were factors in the student placements, and despite Sehun’s family being among the richer or the riches, their reputation was muddy. A lot of scandals had risen involving their names, and even now, more and more dirt about the family was being uncovered.

And so, he placed on the last class. He was unwanted, but since he could pay the tuition, they had to place him somewhere. And that was ‘E’ class.

Kyungsoo was from the ‘A’ class. He was in the top 3 of his class, which meant he was also in the top 3 of the entire school, as the smartest students on the top of the school’s chart were all ‘A’ class students. His family was very rich, and very important in the wealthy world. Everyone knew who they were, what they did. Kyungsoo lived through life easily, everything came to him as a given, nothing wrong ever happened. He was the exact example of a perfect student the school looked for.

Those two boys were never to talk to each other, never to even cross paths inside the excessively huge school grounds. And yet, Sehun saw Kyungsoo every day. He noticed the other boy, he liked looking at him. But he couldn’t do much more than that, as Kyungsoo was so far from the people that talked to Sehun. Kyungsoo had probably never even looked Sehun in the face properly, even though they had attended the same school for their entire lives.

But Sehun always saw him. Sehun always noticed when he was around or not. It was the utmost frowned upon thing in those grounds, an ‘E’ class student trying to get close to an ‘A’ class student. So Sehun didn’t look for too long. He avoided looking when teacher were around, he avoided staring, pretended to be looking to the distance just to see a glimpse.

Because he couldn’t control his heart; if the school and the entire community frowned upon his wish, he was okay with that. But they couldn’t stop him from forming feelings for that which he cannot touch.
