Description

Seung hyun met Hyuna one stormy night on his eighteenth year. The crack of lightning lit his apartment living room like an intro to some cheap slasher movie. That was his thoughts as he sipped at his beer, forgoing another reading for a class he had the day after.

If he was being honest, he would admit to being a stupid, irresponsible teen back then. But then again, a part of his image included this cool neglect for his studies. He was just that rough and tumble kind of guy, roll with the punches, double down, get back up the same number of times. You know. The superficial cool you want in youth.

But the doorbell rings, and he gives an involuntary jolt. Who could that be at, he looks at his wristwatch, midnight on a really ty, cold rainy night? Is he IN a ing slasher movie? Should he get his ing bat?

He went for the door with unneccessary apprehension. ing overwrought imagination!

Of course, what was in store for him was a big bundle of surprise.

He swung the door open to find no one, but then at his feet was a baby carrier complete with a swaddled up baby inside. The child was asleep in spite the cackle of thunder outside, and Seung hyun picks up a note tucked under the kid's pink blanky.

He looked at it confused. This must be some kind of joke, right?

Seung hyun,

The note said familiarly.

This is your daughter.

What the ?

Her name is Hyuna. She was born on the 4th, just like you.

Seung hyun turned his head frantically from left to right, studying the hallway that was only full of shadows and the buzzing of fluorescent lights. He stood up, debated if he should make a run for the elevators or the stairs or something to find the prankster who was responsible for this, this, distasteful joke, but then he reads on,

I know you will never forgive me. I know Hyuna won't. But you... You are her best chance. Please take care of her. I know you probably don't remember me, but I loved you. I loved you and I didn't want to kill the only part of you I had. So please, Seung hyun, take care of her. I am only giving back what you gave me. I am sorry.

He flips the note on its back to find nothing more.

On his head, images of faces popped in his head. ! ! He clawed at his hair. 9 months, February? February? Who did he sleep with on February? 2 girls? 5? ! Did he use condoms? Did he ing forget?

He was in the middle of a mental breakdown. WHERE WAS THE ING SLASHER WHEN YOU NEED ONE!!!

But then thunder crashes down again with a low rumble and the child howls awake.

At a panic, Seung hyun pick her up and brings her in, afraid that the other tenants would wake up. He awkwardly rocks the child, "shh. I know. I know." He looks at the baby's crying face, crumpled in distress. Ah, he marvelled a little at the tiny hands that gripped his hand so desperately. A part of him, his heart, perhaps went to the child. Her grip reminding him that he was probably the only person this tiny human had, "Hyuna... Huh?"

The child's cry mellows to his rocking. "annyeong." he whispered awkwardly. "Annyeong. A-appa has you." As he wiped her tears and there after, the rough and tumble, irresponsible kid disappeared replaced by a father... Hyuna's appa.

###

Hyuna's presence in Seung hyun's life changed everything in a flash. He did, as best as he could, tried to find the child's mother with no luck. He missed two weeks of classes, tried to get help from his parents, but his father would hear none of it. He wanted a paternity test! He wanted Seung hyun to put up Hyuna for adoption! He wanted Seung hyun to give Hyuna away! Seung hyun really didn't know when he became Hyuna's father, but that moment on his father's living room he only knew that he was. paternity test. adoption! Hyuna was his. He knew it. He knew it in his heart.

He could not put Hyuna in that kind of situation after being abandoned by her mother, she must deserved better than being doubted by her father, so there after, Seung hyun left his parents who screamed profanities after him. Ah, he swore to Hyuna he'd be more than that. That he may not be able to give her the cushy life he had, but he'd love her, he'd trust her. He'd be her best friend.

Dropping out of college was a no-brainer, having three jobs was an easy decision. He took care of Hyuna when he could, left her with his aunt when he couldn't. When she was three, he went back to university, and snatched a degree in Marketing after a very hard crawl.

Hyuna was an amazing, supportive child who seldom has tantrums and loved to sleep on his lap when he was studying. Her bedtime stories were marketing case studies and she never complained, only asked for her appa's kiss when she gets tired.

Hyuna was in his arms when he threw his graduation cap, and she was cheering so loud, and Seung hyun knew she was proud of him, even if she didn't quite understand what that meant.

The first day of his internship, Seung hyun and Hyuna quickly celebrated their birthday with blueberry pancakes topped with a lot of whip cream. He was 24, and she was 6.

He dressed her and adeptly styled her hair in pig tail braids. Then he dressed himself. Hyuna picked out his tie, red with red leaf embroidery. She told him they were "Fall leaves in sunset." Which Seung hyun thought was too smart for a six year old, so he showered her with kisses.

Hyuna giggled, and brushed his hair up with her tiny hands mucky with hair gel. When she was done, Seung hyun asked,"how does appa look?"

"Gold star!" Hyuna cheered with two thumbs up.

"You two hurry!" His aunt called out. And he sweeps Hyuna off the bed and into the living room.

He sets her down, kissed her on the lips, swiped a hand across his mouth and gave her a high five. "I'm off to work, honey."

"Come back soon, appa!" Hyuna said.

He grins, and walks out the door waving until he couldn't see her anymore.

Foreword

What? Another one, sevvy?

...

...

Why, yes! Another one! Hahaha. This plonny has been bugging me for about a month, and after much thinking, I decided to just follow the whims of my muse (that damn bit$$^$&*%...). Anywho, this story was what I wanted to write for the TabiSan birth month, anyway. At the forefront though, before you subscribe there are a few things you should know:

  1. This is a more mature story. And by mature, I don't mean whoa ! but it's actually very... um.... uneventful. The conflicts, at least I wish, are more subtle. What am I saying? This might be boring. There is no huge drama or catastrophe... there might be some drama but nothing you would need a tissue box for (or maybe you do). This is just a story. It's not a comedy, or a tragedy, or a . It's just a story, light-hearted in sense because people love the best way they can, and sometimes, it's not even romantic. Awww, shucks.
  2. Hyuna is not Dara's. I just wanted to say that so no one tries and guess and put it on the comment box. It will be obvious, but I am just trying to avoid things that would annoy me. Hahaha.
  3. This is an story where Dara is much older than Seung hyun. She is 34, that's ten years his senior... If you don't like noona fics, then this isn't for you.

So far, this is all I can think of, oh and the usual I don't update soon, so if you can avoid asking for updates that would be A*ing*MAZING. Also if you want to make me a poster/banner/topdara edit, I would love one. Hahaha.

Ciao.

Chapter 4: This story has been on my "catch up soon" list since the day you posted the first chapter. But finally today I took some time to read all the way through to the most recent posting. And oh how I love it, how I love your characters and their depth of feelings and complexity and the feelings they draw out of my heart. I have fallen hard and fast. Seunghyun and Hyuna warm my heart in a very special way. I almost had tears in my eyes at their relationship and with how deeply he loves her. And Dara tugs at my heart too, she seems unhappy and yet so pressured (whether from outside forces or herself) to present herself "properly" and not to let her guard down...I don't claim to understand her though because I feel like we've just scratched at the surface of who she is and I am looking forward to getting to know her better. That goes for Seunghyun and Hyuna too! I am definitely very curious of the aftermath of the "Omma" scream from that little ball of adorableness lol I'm sure shockwaves will hit!
I'm so glad I had some time today to catch up. Thank you for your beautiful writing.
*blows kisses*

Chapter 4: I like this chapter like a previewmof sorts to Dara's inner workings. I like how you emphasized the word mature and how she was somehow stuck in that image and with expectations vested on her without her really understanding the situation complete and that really struck a chord with me. I can some how can relate to that feeling when I was growing up. Excited to see Dara and Little Hyuna's interaction.

Chapter 4: Dara I guess is pretty good at compartmentalizing her emotion. A little distant too pragmatic. But so is everyone I guess. When you have a life and emotion is not really a necessary tool to function in your job
