"I won't make it!" despite her efforts, their footsteps were just getting closer and closer.

A hand grabbed her arm painfully and whirled her around. There stood 12 men, their shadows looming over her. She felt herself shrinking in fear. I really don't have time for this right now! she cursed silently under her breath.

She had to get out of there. She had to. It wasn't time for them to know yet.

At that moment, the huge grandfather's clock on the wall struck midnight, the eerie sound resounding across the hall. The men were startled by the noise and the grip loosened. Taking that as her chance to escape, she broke free and dashed into the night, leaving the dumbfounded men in the dust.

I'm sorry...but I'll explain it all later. She apologetically glanced her head back to look at them. They simply stared at her with lost and blank stares.They watched her as she bended down and placed something gently on the floor. Snapping out of their trance, the 12 hurriedly ran over to see what it was. But she was long gone.

All that was left was a shoe and a note.
