Jeonju Executive Golf Resort

City of Jeonju, North Jeolla Province

It was one sunny afternoon, and the male members of the Kim and Kwon family (except Kwon Jiyong) gathered to do their most favorite pastime – golfing. In truth, the sport was more for the younger males, as Grandfathers Kim and Kwon only sat down to watch and observe their sons and grandson. While the young ones played, the elderlies shared about the recent events concerning the Rites of a Man.

“Jiyong built two dressers for me in one day,” shared Grandfather Kim. “Your grandson has a talent for cabinetry.”

“He got that from me, old friend. I was told he also filled the village well with potable water?”

“Oh yes, comrade. Kwon Jiyong did it in just four hours, by hand and by foot. I must admit I am very impressed.”

“My grandson is also lucky that for every day, a new friend's willing to help him with the rituals. He's getting help not just from his friends, but also from Taeyeon's. It seems their sets of friends truly want them to be together.”

“Dami and Hayeon have been helping too,” shared Kim Jiwoong, who sat down beside the elders after he finished his 18-hole. “I like Jiyong, but as Tae's brother, I want to test that man too, not help him.”

“What's your project for my boy today, Father Kim?” asked Jiyong's father, Daddy Kwon. He just moved on to his next hole, and the others followed by cart.

“He's painting the houses of five village establishments, as suggested by your father. I was told Youngbae and Seunghyun would be helping. They have until sundown to finish the task.”

Taeyeon's Father, who was currently swinging and calculating his hit, wondered, “Fathers, with all due respect, how long are you planning to punish the poor kid?”

“Yah, you rascal,” angrily hissed Grandfather Kim to his son, which caused Daddy Kim to miss his goal. “We're only doing this for the future of your children.”

“My grandson has to prove himself well for Kim Taeyeon. It's what the gods have called for. After all, he and Taeyeon must be the fourth couple to be offered to the gods.”

“How you could make them believe all your fake version of the history of The Great Pact, I wouldn't want to know,” commented Daddy Kwon, shaking his head. It was now his turn to swing.

Taeyeon's father laughed, and also said, “I am beyond amazed by the brotherhood of The Great Pact councils all over the country. You led the children towards the three other couples, and made them believe they didn't have to marry!”

“These kids really thought they could outsmart us about The Great Pact,” muttered Grandpa Kwon in amusement. “Our generation knows the history better than anyone else alive. A couple of stubborn youngsters can't plot against us.”

“Thanks to your friend in Seoul National University for tipping us,” Grandpa Kim told Grandpa Kwon.

“How did you figure out that our kids would really fall in love like this?” wondered Taeyeon's father, now joining the elders in snacking.

Grandpa Kwon replied, “During the night of The First Exchange, the rain visited us in the middle of summer. That was the gods' blessing for the coupling of Jiyong and Taeyeon.”

Grandpa Kim added, “We knew, from the very first rain drop, that Kwon Jiyong and Kim Taeyeon were destined. If it didn't rain that night, we would have stopped the arrangement the next very day.”

“By the way son, thank you for tipping us about Jiyong's sudden agreement to the marriage on the first night he introduced Taeyeon to the Kwon family. It was because of you that the councils got ahead of the youngsters.”

“It was very suspicious when he suddenly introduced Taeyeon as his fiancé to his mom and sister. Goodness, my clueless son.”

“My granddaughter became just as stubborn as Jiyong. It was so amusing to see them expanding and prolonging their theatrics. They didn't know that the more they fought the pact, the more they spent time together.”
