The Beginning

It all began in 2009, where I was exposed to my first ever K-POP song by my music teacher, Hello by SHINee. There have already been some Kpoppers in my school back then, who were in love with SHINee, but I never really got the chance to listen to the songs until that one fateful music lesson. Later, I got really interested in them and soon dug up the songs Ring Ding Dong, and Replay. That was when I met my very first bias - Onew/ Lee Jinki.

 

My friend soon introduced me to Girl's Gerenration/ SNSD, with their famous lively and cute song, Gee. And that was the start of my avid research on this interesting genre of music... I realised that by 2009, many groups (now probably known as the senior groups) have recently debuted, such as 2NE1, BIGBANG, Super Junior, U-KISS, and many more, that would soon become my bias groups.

The Birth of a VIP

I only realised that this 5-member talented group existed after listening to Lollipop by 2NE1, and my bias honestly changed various times in my whole journey of being a VIP. At first, I was really into TOP. I liked how he rapped in his low voice, which contrasted GD's, but overall, after Wedding Dress came out, I fell in love with Taeyang's lovely voice. He was my first ultimate bias. His birthday (May 18), was like my birthday (which is like in mid-June), and I would often tell my friends that my birthday was on 18th of May. But that was when I was still childish and immature. (Cough, but now I guess that immaturity level in me is still as high, or maybe even higher) 2009 was the peak of my YG STAN period.

Becoming a KISS-ME

Following BIGBANG, I got into U-KISS. They came out with 만만하니 (manmanhani/ Am I that easy) and Neverland, which became my favourite songs to listen to on youtube. Of course, Bingeul Bingeul (빙글빙글) was nice as well, though I found BIGBANG's version a slight bit more addictive (sorry KISS-MEs). I had a tough time deciding on whether my bias was going to be Eli or Soohyun, as they each had their own charisma that attracted me. Eventually, I became a greedy fan, claiming both as my bias. ❦

Even though they went through several member switches, U-KISS will forever be U-KISS, with their adorable, dorky leader, Soohyun; their little pigeon, Eli; the pretty boy, Kevin; the 4-D character, Kiseop; the extremely fit, Hoon; and not forgetting their newest edition, Jun! I would be lying if I said I didn't miss Alexander, Dongho and Kibum, just rewatch all their shows from Chef's Kiss, to All About U-KISS, to U-KISS' Vampire, and you'll know why. But the addition of Hoon and AJ was great, though AJ recently left to study in America, I'm sure he'll be back to promote with the group in no time. In the mean time, AJ, 화이팅, I'm sure you can do well in your studies. (While I sit over here and cry over my results and K-dramas)

A Shinhwa Changjo's introduction to AFF

The next group I got into was in Dec 2012, where I just discovered this legendary group, Shinhwa. It was also the time where I found this wonderful websites of stories - Asianfanfics. This special group of people also made me publish my first fanfic; with their ability to bring so much laughter to their Changjos through various variety shows like X-MAN, and their very own show, Shinhwa Broadcast. It was difficult to choose a bias for this group because I just couldn't put my finger on one of them. At first I thought that it would be Eric, but then Minwoo and the baby bird (Junjin) crept crawling up, and after I watched Dongwan's drama (Cheer Up, Mr Kim), bam, my bias list is ruined. Upon watching season 2 of Shinhwa Broadcast, Andy and Hyesung were coaxing me to choose them as their bias, but of course, their strong contender was Eric. His random personality made me wonder how he could lead so well, but a man has his ways I guess.

More exposure and a Proud BANA

In 2013, I was exposed to many groups, such as MBLAQ, Infinite, Tasty, LEDapple, and BTS (but sadly they didn't make it to my bias group list). I also soon became a huge fan of B1A4, when they came back with What's Going On. The upbeat song caught my attention and made me watch all the shows they've participated in, which included Sesame Player, Hello Baby (they are adawable here > <;), God of Cookery, MTV Match Up, and so many more. My bias is none other than the bear of the group, CNU~ I really liked their songs Tried To Walk and Lonely (I really like the slow, somewhat mellow sounding songs of theirs), but not forgetting that their maknae, Gongchan has more and more parts! I'm really glad that he's getting more lines because as you all know, in almost every single group, there'll be that one member that doesn't get a single line or just gets some background part. (This will be pointed out again later in another bias group of mine)

 

In addition, I became a 24U. Although this fandom may not be heavily populated YET, this group of 6 people have certainly gotten my liking through their song U R So Cute. My bias is either Cory (their leader) or Byungho (that charismatic rapper hehehe). I believe that they are also gaining more popularity through promotions in Japan and their other songs are really nice too! I especially recommend all to listen to Secret Love and give them lots of love!

 

 

2013: Starlight's Melody

Not forgetting my recent addiction to 2 special groups of people, BTOB and VIXX. I shall begin with BTOB. They gained my love during their promotion of their first digital single, Second Confession. This cute, cheerful song, along with their suave raps and melodic voices enchanted me to love this group. Second Confession was fine in a sense that all 7 members got quite an equal share of parts, however, as I went to search their other songs up, I realised that, similar to Gongchan, a certain member didn't have an equal distribution of lines as I thought. And that was Peniel. At first, my bias was Sungjae. To be honest, he was the one who caught my heart first with his charming voice. But soon, I have no idea how Peniel just came whooshing in, sweeping Sungjae and everyone else off the charts. He even overtook Taeyang as my ultimate bias.

I was glad that he could speak english (he came from America), and well, he's just a cute little lost puppy that wants someone to love him. Though I always am embarrassed for him whenever he speaks in any show, why? Well, just go watch all their interviews or whatever. He either would just remain quiet (and I know the reason why the members don't want him to speak) or he would just spout out everything in his mind without filtering it. An example would be in After School Club. Sometimes, I have no idea whether it's just that he's this awkward puppy, or just have this dorky character in him.

 

And then we have my current favourite group, VIXX! I was really happy that they finally won first place on music shows, together with B1A4 who had their first win in 2013 as well. (Cross your fingers BTOB, I'll continue supporting you all the way!!) Anyways, VIXX became my bias group in October 2013, when their song G.R.8.U/대.다.나.다.너. came out. I was guilty of not liking Hyde when I first heard it on a music show, but soon after this sweet song, I fell in love with them from the start. My bias was an immediate Ravi, because I just have a thing for rappers; but then poof, out of no where came Njumma and his attack on my bias list in Mar 2014 (and it was during the month of Peniel's birthday too! T^T). I started to love Hakyeon (N) a lot, and I really like that VIXX was given the opportunity to act in dramas (Hongbin in SBS Glorious Days, and N in MBC Hotel King). I loved how N is acting as a character in Hotel King that lightens up the mood of the drama, being in the 'off-drama' scene without any crying or scenes where the "villians" attack the protagonist. But anyways, go watch and support our dearest Noah! (N's character in Hotel King) So yeah, my ultimate bias is now Cha Hakyeon from VIXX (as seen from my profile picture). 2014: Got7 g-got got7

2014. Where several rookie groups are growing bigger. Well, I started getting exposed to even more groups and well, too many in fact. But recently, I've been getting into GOT7. (Which is bad if you ask me because VIXX might be 'below' them soon... oh dear..  > <; So yehh, I started by listening a little too much to A and I was like, wow this group is fun. When I first heard Girls Girls Girls, it was a little average-like, compared to other rookie groups that emerged in 2013 (such as Toppdogg, Alphabat, BTS...) so they didn't really captivate me into listening more of them. Though I knew about JJ project because of MTV diary (where they were in the same season as my dearest VIXX and BTOB) but still, I just listened to the only song they promoted actively - Bounce. It was only until this upbeat, super cheerful song (A~~~~) came on, and bam, that was it. I was into the world of GOT7.

I started learning their dance for A, then slowly Girls Girls Girls, and then I Like You, before I discovered "Real Got7" and I was like, cool they have something like VIXX TV. Then my friends introduced me to I GOT7 and also other shows they have 'guest starred' in, and they really amaze me each time. It was really difficult to choose a bias. Trust me. I couldn't make up my mind. (Similar to that of VIXX initially) Till now, I am still unable to choose one. BUT I have shortlisted a few that are my 'potental bias': Jr. , Mark, JB, BamBam. So, I guess I'll have to see how it goes? Maybe I shall be greedy and take all 4 of them as my bias xD hehet.
