How violent does something have to be before you'd rate it M?

Like I understand where the line is for ~lewd~ stuff but. For violence, what would you say the line is?

I'm genuinely curious about this, I'm not sure whether to rate one of my stories M because of the violence in upcoming chapters?

I agree with the other comments. I also think that if it's only one or two chapters, then just designate those chapters M. It's also important to have content warnings, I think. Especially if the violence could potentially be triggering to some people.

In my opinion, gore and ual violence crosses the line, like I wouldn't want a 12-year-old reading my detailed story about someone being chopped up into pieces.

In my opinion, it depends on how graphic the violence is. The description of what is happening can be triggers for some people (e.g,. VERY detailed descriptions of someone getting killed, assaulted, etc.). If a story heavily features or focuses largely on mature content, then rate the entire story. If only some chapters are mature, then just rate those. It also doesn't hurt to put warnings in the foreword or at the beginning of the chapters with them. This is just what I think. It is up to you on what you define to be mature

Depends on how graphic it is.

You can also rate deprecate chapters M with a warning to readings in the beginning so those who can't handle it don't read the chapter.

It depends on how graphic it is rather than how “violent” it gets, for me. You can reference heavy violence but if it’s only that - a reference, then there’s no need to rate it M. And you can have a little violence but if it’s written out in great details, then I’d rate it M. You can always make a note that says “this story will contain violence”. But for the most part I think it’s up to the author where they think the line goes. ;-;
