Thoughts on slowburn stories?

I had someone review my story and she described it as a "slowburn fanfiction" and I've been obsessed with this term ever since. What do you guys think of slowburn stories? I never intended for my own story to be slowburn but it ended up playing out that way and I think it fits well with the story. I personally don't feel like every single relationship goes into a romantic milestone right away so perhaps, slowburn stories are pretty realistic?

I really like them as well, as long as it doesn't become drawn out for the sake of being drawn out. I also think that even within a romantic relationship there can be a slowburn as well. I think in the end it becomes more realistic, but I also think that sudden and quick romantic develops are extremely realistic as well. As long as it's not like "I love you, I'd die without you" but I think that things like kissing on a first date or a whim is occasionally pretty true to real life.

@Cordiform I think they're unpopular because many of them are written by pre-teens so they have those cringy storylines with cringy writing and just cringy everything. At least from my experience, I've seen this. I also think people don't think it's culturally accurate to have a Western OC in Korea? Someone else told me that reason but to me I don't mind, as long as it fits for the story. Oh great! Let me know what you think of my story :) It's called The Duet by the way, I just realized I didn't say the title before. I was checking out your works and your God's story actually interests me! I'm going to get down to reading it sometime.

@sheeiinewrites Yeah exactly. Of course I'd love to check it out! I'm not sure why western OC's are as unpopular as they are, at the end of the day we're all human. I write myself so I know how nice it is to get comments and feedback so I'll definitely give you some. And I wonder the same thing so don't worry you're not alone hahaha

@Cordiform I totally get how you feel, fast relationships can come off as unconvincing. I think no one reads my slowburn because it'a OCxKai and the girl is a Westerner which doesn't seem to be popular here. Would you mind checking it out? It's been fourteen chapters and my pairing hasn't gotten together yet XD I'm always looking for feedback, but that's up to you if you want to write any. Lol I don't have a lot of readers so I always wonder if it's bad and no one is telling me, haha.

Slow burns are my aaaaaaaaabsolute favourite. Like I want to fall in love with their relationship along with them, if they've moved faster than I'm able to emotionally invest in them, I don't get as much enjoyment out of reading... if that makes any sense? I like the buildup so when it finally happens it's like OH MY God It's FINally HERE!??!? And this really depends on whether something's written well but I often find that when relationships move waaaaay too fast, they feel very artificial and forced? I mean I know they're artificial but... ¬_¬ of course some relationships do happen fast but... slow burns have a special place in my heart

@girafferabbit I agree with you, relationships can be so complex that I don't believe that every single one is fall head over heals and date immediately, some take time to develop and there are factors and circumstances of both their lives that shape their relationship too so it's not so black and white!

@goldteacup That's interesting, I didn't think of it that way, to me, slowburn is a story description :)

I love slow burn because it gives more of a chance to let the relationship play out and stuff and besides being more realistic it also sort of develops?? The relationship over time compared to other stories where the ppl might just fall in love and date immediately

I think it's just a description, doesn't have to be good or bad!

I actually think readers prefer slowburn in multi-chaptered stories. Heck, they probably prefer them in general unless it's . Keep doing you. You'll find a readerbase if that's what you're worried about.
