Maybe they seek love on this site for various reasons or they maybe just need karma?

This is old. I'm bored and this site is dry at its best so here we go.
It's ok not to desire comments or think about them as important. We all write for different reasons and have different expectations. However, your attitude towards those who do want to receive comments is a bit upsetting and unsettling. It's not about wanting your ego or your feet kissed, it's more about wanting a reassurance that your story has indeed been read, that there are people out there who give a cr*p about your story, about wanting to interact with your readers. Sometimes it's also about validation, popularity and egos, but there's nothing wrong with that either. As somebody else said, not writing for the comments or expecting them doesn't make you special or different, neither does it give you the right to look down on those who do.

@jungkookismykook I've many plenty of decent Armys but you don't seem to be one of them.

I mean, people post their stories on here to get some sort of recognition. You said you also have a story (or stories) and you find the comments annoying. But honestly, aren't you just saying that to instigate and provoke people? You just say all of these because you want to be that special snowflake who is like the 'true writer' who doesn't write for comments but write simply because they love writing. However, the fact that you posted your story meant that you actually seek some kind of recognition, no?

You are being one heck of a contradicting, hypocritic troll. And that's annoying enough to warrant me to 'comment' on this discussion. Because you know what? Comments are important.

@Emilieee Strongly agree!!!!!

I love to receive comments, they are ENCOURAGING. When you publish your story you would want to know what the readers are thinking of, did they like it? What they liked? What they didn't like? Comments aren't just "wow! Your story is amazing!" They could be criticisms to help you write better. Which writer doesn't love comments!!!?
When there is no comment you won't stop writing, of course, but you won't be inspired to publish your work. Why would I if no one is even noticing it, or waiting for an update?

@jungkookismykook I don't see the point of making a discussion and disagreeing with everyone. You're obviously a troll, so...

this is a discussion but you're quick to diss everyone who don't agree with you

yo if u don't feel the need to get feedback or want to hear back from your readers, you go along your way writing to nobody who cares enough to comment then. why bother if authors ask for comments? nobody's specifically asking YOU to comment. you complain toooooo much :////////// smh sorry ur feet never been kissed lol

just my 2 cents on this matter:

Personally, I wouldn't complain about not getting comments etc, but from my perspective, it seems that the "complaints" are just an exaggerated way to express the amount of frustration a lot of authors feel...Problem is, it can come off as "wanting to get their ego " when in reality, it's more about wanting more engagement with their active readers...

Like a lot people have already mentioned, comments can help encourage writers to continue their writing/push through slumps, improve their writing or just to build rapport between them and the readers (This is a "community" after all--it'd be pretty boring if no one commented on anything at all lol).

Although I do want to say that most ppl are afraid to leave con-crit, which I guess should change, since con-crit is just as helpful as nice stuff too.(Plus the fear of writing something remotely like criticism, probably perpetuates the notion that all writers equate comments with "compliments"...rip)

I guess subscriber numbers don't mean that much, especially when most of the fics here are "subscribers only" anyway...

But then again, everyone's entitled to their own opinion :)

There's nothing wrong with wanting comments on one's stories - it's a good feedback, a good way for authors to know how well-received their work is and where they need to improve. Reading is a social enterprise, as is writing. Neither can really be done in isolation. Plus, as many before me have commented here, the authors here write for free and most of them even take requests from readers. They definitely have every right to want comments at least appreciating or acknowledging their work. It also allows for an open dialogue between readers and writers, which again helps develop appreciation and writing skills. If you don't really like comments and find them bothersome, you could just disable the comments section in your stories...

Well, of course too many authors want their feet kissed and egos by wanting some comments because they get almost none. We write for free, unlike authors who publish books, so there is very little to keep us motivated. While subs are welcomed, comments let me know there are real people reading my stories. How would I know my subs are real?

@jungkookismykook comments are mean to encourage and help authors to continue to write. through the comments, we would know what reader think, what to expect, what to write and where to story would go. we, the author want to know the reader's opinion. if they dont comment, how should we know if they read or not. not all people who sub read the story they sub. i said so because i did too.

you think comments are annoying? did you disable comments in your story? you should do that.

@jungkookismykook as much as you find comments annoying, i don't find subscribers worth much to be grateful for as they're just numbers with nothing behind them ~
