Invitation only

What do you think to let readers here read our work through our invitation only?

@istj Me too, but I am going too..only after knowing among my readers, I only choose the passionate readers....I don't dare to pull out that stunt otherwise...lol

I have never actually made my fics invitation only. my fics aren't popular like that but I do make them subscribers only. i mean it can get annoying but you can just unsub if you don't like it.

@RyuWatanabe I think you're taking the wrong approach with pleading, though. Whatever you chooses to do, that's up to you.

Well, I mean, honestly the choice is yours in the end. No matter what anyone tells you, you're the one that will decide if you want to or not, though judging by your responses to the other comments down below, it seems like you've already making your way towards choosing to do invitation only. I'm still just gonna post my perspective on this if you don't mind.

Personally, in my opinion, I don't at all think about using the Subscribers/Members/Invitation only options that have been introduced long ago. I really don't see myself ever using those commonly or at all at the present time or in the future. For me, when I write my stories, I want everyone to be able to get the chance to read them and view, even if I may not get that much feedback. For me, I don't like the idea of having it so that not everybody gets the chance, aka putting it on something like Members/Invitation only (plus that makes it so I'm forced to log on if I'm not, and I know that sounds really lazy, but it lol, and I don't like logging on with my phone, although Members-only isn't all that bad and I'd say it's the least worst one). And for the Subscribers-only one, when it comes to myself checking out stories to read, I like to read a bit of the first few chapters to see if I really like/love it enough to subscribe, and that hinders me. I don't really like that I might be forced to subscribe.

I know peeps may have their reasons for doing stuff like Invite only along with the other two (tho I may not completely understand them yet) but again, it's not something I would resort to or intend on using. Also, I usually tend to steer clear from stories that I see with stuff like Subs-only because it just seems like a hassle to me, even if it may seem like a good one that I may like. Not that I really read much nowadays, but, yeah.

@MissMinew I am planning to, although deep inside I dun wanna to. I know, ppl would probably call me stingy or childish, but you know, I already give up a hope after pleading so many times

@SavorySins I welcome all comments actually, the problem is, when I was asking their opinion or critiques or suggestion, there is none of it. By invitation only, I think I am personally harvest an interest toward particular readers, but it's doesn't mean critiques isn't welcomed. I dunno, I think I am already give up after so many times of asking for honest opinion, but receiving almost no reaction.

I personally would never consider invitation only. It defeats the purpose of me even writing and posting the story online. Not to mention, it cuts me off from many other people that may have been interested in my story. Not to mention, I've had some stories I was subscribed to go to invite only before. It makes me feel like people only want the "good" comments while cutting themselves off from the "bad" ones. Idk...I welcome all comments because they help me grow...I feel that's less likely to happen if you surround yourself with people that are always telling you what you want to hear...or read...

@RyuWatanabe Heh, exactly. Altho I don't really have any stories on invite-only and don't intend on making anything invite-only I can definitely understand why some people do.

@tourmaline I think invitation only allow more fair and square situation. I mean loyal readers deserved to be invited and get the privilege, and writers deserved comments and upvotes from readers who they know appreciate their works.

@MissMinew Totally agree with all you have said. It's a shame that I ( may be other writers too) come to term that I wanna share it with readers that who I know really appreciate my works, but it's more shameful to have a lot of subscribers but very few comments and upvotes. It's a sad truth that I have to accept. And yes I also think, invitation only as a way to show my appreciation toward my loyal and passionate readers, so that they feel exclusive and special. I guess, it's also a good way to have closer relationship with my readers bcause very small 'coverage',-so I can I pay more attention toward the audience ( thou it's not that I m popular...)

Oh wow. After reading the two replies below I'm suddenly interested to set my stories on invitation-only.

there was a period of time when i set some of my stories to invitation only bc i wasn't sure if i wanted to continue them but i still wanted people who liked the story to be able to read it? so i just invited everyone who commented and upvoted on my works! i don't do that anymore though rip

i remember seeing this one author who would have a regular fic with only the foreward posted and then the actual fic be invitation only so people would comment on the foreward and then the author would invite them to read the actual fic if they promised to comment or were regular readers or something? i'm not actually sure of the reason but i think it was along the lines of what missminew said.

Honestly, I can see the appeal. That way you know the readers you get to read, you're in total control and you can allow those you know appreciate your work to read it while everybody else doesn't get the privilege because they don't show any feedback or negative feedback. So yeah, I can see the appeal. One of the stories I was really fond of became invite only and yeah, it was sad, but it's also okay. the story was amazing, it deserves an audience that truly appreciates it, and it seemed very personal as well. So yeah, it's sad but that's life. I see the appeal and I don't think badly of authors who chooses to do it this way. ^^
