Would this be taboo to write in a story?

This is just a hypothetical... I may or may not write it depending on opinions in this discussion

Would it be bad if I indicated that one of the characters is an orphan, but in reality they're someone with both parents? I do have in a disclaimer that says that everything in my story is fictional, but I'd still like to make sure before I do anything rash. Of course, I have full respect for all idols in my story, but still. It could be offensive... Please send help!

@jisol_11 LOL. Thanks! And yeah, I realized later after reading the feedback that it wasn't too serious, but I'm glad I asked anyways!

I was already worried when I read the title but it turned out to be really cute lmao. No, I don't think this is a taboo topic, there are things on this website that would fit way better into the taboo topic section. Don't worry!

this is probably the least taboo description on this site. I mean, people on this site write about r*pe and falling in love with psychopathic stalkers and that's just the tip of the iceberg. You're fine, go ahead and write. :)

Well, some people send dirty yaio fics to their idols. Of course, about those idols who are receiving them. So no, you're not doing wrong.

Go ahead and write whatever you want. You can write in the foreword how it's all fictional, but readers know it is fictional anyway. Don't worry about it. People write all kinds of things and it's all cool because this isnt real.

I wrote that Kyungsoo killed his father and nobody cares of course. Its called fanfiction for a reason. :)

It's completely fine since it is fictional, but you must write it with the respect and consideration of your character.

Disclaimers can help. I agree with the previous answers that since it's fiction, it can be manipulated into certain ways, and a use of character is included in those manipulations. As long as it's not at all offensive (I mean, being an orphan is okay, after all, we only make it a stigma because people are judgmental like that), you can use topics/people fictitiously and creatively.

it's not taboo at all as it is a fictional story.
but i've read where some kids feel like orphans or an only child because the parents are never there and their siblings and such.
but yeah, you have a disclaimer so you should be okay.

in my opinion because like you said, it's fictional and not real. It is fine to write something like that and in fact there are more fanfics that consist more sensitive and explicit content than what you listed. It might be uncomfortable for some readers but then again, it's fictional and if someone has been in the same situation in real life it might just be a coincidence.
