Readers that constantly subcribe and unsubscribe

I look at my subscription list and notifs occasionally, and I noticed this one user that keeps appearing on my subscription notifications. But when I go to my subscriber's list, that user isn't on there. Why would someone keep subscribing to my story(presumably to read it?), just to unsubscribe later? Has anyone experienced this?

edit: I should have worded this better. This user isn't subscribing just one time and then unsubbing if they don't like it. They're subscribing again and again to the same story and unsubbing later, and this happened over the course of a few weeks.

maybe you need to ask her directly. we'd never know why

Bi polar much???? Either that or they're experiencing some sort of bug. A few days ago I tried subscribing to a request shop a couple of times too and for some reason AFF didn't give me updates on my subscribers feed. It was sooooo weird. You try weird things when you're desperate.

Ahhh that can be annoying. If the reason for doing that is to keep the subscription list shorter then that . But if it has anything to do with being able to sort ongoing fics from completed ones then, Labels are there for a reason, I hope people use them.

I mean I have 1k+ subscriptions but the long list doesn't intimidate me cos I label ongoing fics. Makes life easier and manageable, like really

Yes, but fortunately on only one occasion. To be brutally frank, those are one of the types of readers that I hate the most. I can understand that they do not want to stay subscribed when my story isn't something for them but please, please do not constantly come back, subscribe and then leave again. It is beyond frustrating.

@gurjit I do the same :/

lol i subscribe to stories that require me to before reading the content and if i don't enjoy the content, then i'll unsubscribe.

@gurjit thanks for replying but I don't think you are one of those people I am referring to haha. This reader doesn't just unsubscribe once, they sub and unsub again and again on the same story. I can understand your reasons for unsubbing though

I am one of the people that do this. Sorry :( if I subscribe to a story and I'm not really into it for whatever reason I will unsubscribe. If it is completed and I am finished reading it I unsubscribe too. It keeps the subscription list shorter so I can find stories that are in progress/on going all on one page.

@KimJiByung Ah, maybe that's the reason. My story is rated M with TW. I don't mind much either but I was just really curious since I've been noticing it go on for a while

I have a subscriber that does that constantly, it's the same subscriber every time. And it's only one story of mine that they constantly subscribe and unsubscribe to. I only know that because I checked it out before they could unsubscribe right quick. XD I figure one reason is the contents of the story is a bit... mature and rated (there's a trigger warning so they can only read it if they are subscribed), and maybe they're subconscious about it or something. Idk, it's kind of annoying but I don't mind much.

@kameleon: Yep! It's still ongoing, though I haven't released an update in about almost a month because of school. Hmmmmm maybe that's the reason why haha. I'll keep an eye out for if she subscribes again before my next update

Is the story still ongoing? I also notice this one user who keeps subscribing and then unsubscribing one of my ongoing stories. I only assume that she comes to AFF only to read and doesn't want actually subscribe to everything, so she reads updates only from tags (bcs some people I know do this too) instead of receiving any notification from the stories she subscribes to. Ugh I hope my explanation makes sense haha ouo;;

@ladywolf , @hocotate: It's odd, isn't it? I don't know what to make of it. I want to know what's going on but at the same time I don't feel comfortable reaching out to them, especially when they're not a subscriber/reader.

@MissMinew: Yeah, it's the same person over and over on the same story(I only have one). I can't figure out why someone would bother to do that. If they want to read it, why not stay subscribed. It makes it easier to find and keeps them updated on new chapters. If they don't like it, why keep coming back? I'm honestly so bewildered

@AceJulia, @leecj223: Yeah, I know I have my story on subs-only. But this person keeps subscribing and unsubscribing to the same story(I only have one) again and again. I've been noticing him/her for a few weeks now. If he/she doesn't like it, why keep coming back?

People subscribe because most stories requires them to subscribe to it and then they can read. They probably saw the title and was like ohh this story is going to be good. So they subscribe and read. But later they unsubscribe due to the plot, characters, or anything that makes them uncomfortable. Especially the grammar.

I think that's what @AceJulia says it is. I did hear some people subscribe to read a chapter then after they're done they unsubscribe. Then when they have time for another chapter they subscribe again to read the next one.

I have seen this too - one user who for several months straight kept subscribing and unsubscribing to all of my stories over and over again. I sent a pm and asked but they never replied, so I just blocked since it got annoying. I have no clue why someone would keep subbing and unsubbing like that :/

This happens to me too, a lot and I don't know why. One reader in particular, I keep seeing the notification. Subscribing and unsubscribing constantly to the same story. It's honestly starting to get on my nerves. If you find out why people do it, please let me know.

Block them or ask them about it?

Is it the same user that go subscribing and unsubscribing from the same story all the time? Then I would probably be a liiiittle wary. Honestly, that would be suspicious to me. If it's the same user but different stories then I would assume they just didn't suit the reader - especially if my stories are on subs-only.

You have your story on subs-only which means that people need to subscribe to even start checking out the chapters. If they like it, they stay subscribed, if not they unsubscribe.
