any good kdrama or korean movies?

the thing is... so far, i've watched many american and uk tv shows like merlin, dexter, the flash, supernatural, sherlock, the walking dead, etc. i wanna take a break from english entertainment for a while. i'm looking for a good korean (or japanese) drama or movies with heavy but excellent plot, because i'm kinda used to twisty heavy unexpectable story plot. if possible, i don't want the show to focus on romance. no, i don't enjoy romance or all those sweet cute thingies.

a friend of mine suggested the drama goblin to me, but idk whether it's worth it or not... any good suggestion?

also, no. the actor or actress don't necessarily have to be good looking. if they are good in the show, i'll find them interesting enough. :D

Goblin is romance, actually. But the plot is okay, I think, maybe. XD It depends, but for me, it was interesting at first, and lots of comedy. Probably you can give it a try. And if I were to suggest, I don't know if you like time-travelling, but if you do, Signal and Nine:Nine Time Travels is a good drama. And this is not time travel, but just want to recommend, pleace come back mister.

For Korean dramas, I second Bad Guys and Signal! (My 2 favs as well; they're both dark and have interesting plots.)

As for Japanese movies, I'm not sure if you'd be up to watching animated ones as well? If so, Studio Ghibli makes great ones like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Graveyard of Fireflies, etc.

If you're looking for quality and unpredictable plots and you enjoy shows with little to no romance (just like me), I'd highly recommend those, which are my favorites:
Bad Guys, Signal, Bridal Mask, God's Gift, Liar Game (it was inspired by the Japanese drama of the same title, which is also really good.)

As for Goblin, I kind of like it, but I still have some issues with it. Honestly, I only watch it for Grim Reaper because he is absolutely everything.

As for movies, one of my favorite movies was directed by Park Chan-Wook, a South Korean film director, however, there is no asian actors in the movie. The name of the movie is Stoker. I've also watched Train To Busan two weeks ago and it was great.

I really recommend W, Hwarang, Descendants of the Sun, She Was Pretty, and Reply 1997. Those were some really good dramas that I watched in the past. ^^

Goblin is seriously amazing, give it a chance. Now I've watched a lot of kdramas and kmovies but i don't remember a lot of them but if you want something more like thriller and such then god's gift:14 days is a good one. I'll try listing what I remember and some might have slight romance.
Goblin (Does have romance but it won't ruin the amazing plot)
God's Gift:14 days (No romance, it's a thriller and it's amazing!)
Doctor Stranger (Has some romance but more towards the end)
Let's Fight Ghost (Has romance but the comedy and slight thriller will make up for it)
Detective K: Secret of the Virtuous Widow (No romance and it's comedy)
Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island (No romance just comedy)
Gangnam Blues (No romance and it's a gang type of movie)
Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Does have romance but the show is really good)
Age of Youth (It has romance but it's not based on it so more like side romance. This is a slice of life type of show)
Ex-Girlfriend Club (Does have romance around the end but it's hilarious)
Iljimae (Though there are love interests, none of them actually date so I have to say no romance. It's really good.)
Ghost aka Phantom (no romance and it's not supernatural either but it's really good)
Midnight FM (it's a thriller and there's no romance)
City Hunter (Does have romance but they don't end up together)
Miracles in cell no 7 (no romance but kinda sad)
Mirror of the witch (Does have romance but it's not too strong)
I hear your voice (There is romance but the comedy and somewhat thriller makes up for it)
And I just want to say that it's going to be hard to find kdramas/kmovies without romance, there are some but they're not super common. But I hope you'll give the suggestions a try even if they have romance and you'll see they're really good when you overlook the romance- That's all I an remember heh.

I can suggest you Dr. Frost it's a crime, thriller, mystery kind one, Himura Hideo no Suiri is not bad and Bitter Blood (japanese one too) is really fun to watch

Goblin is just amazing, but it does contain romance in it... Even though I haven't seen it, how about Miracle in Cell No.7? It's a family comedy/melodrama movie. I watched clips of it and I was already balling my eyes out.

Kdramas are rarely ever unexpectable (and dark) etc. but "hello monster" might come the closest to that of all kdramas. It's about a serial killer and RELATIVELY good for a kdrama, though of course, there is the obligatory romance. I don't really know about movies though, I think there are some pretty dark Korean ones. Wait, there's Midnight FM - it's a pretty dark movie, maybe that would be something for you...
