Unpopular opinion time - Rants Welcome

Time to voice your unpopular opinions and rants! I want to hear them all! It can be about anything - from aff, kpop, kpop groups, Donald Trump, real life issues - anything!

This should be a safe place - please no bashing each other - I just want to know what you guys (really) think about.

My unpopular opinion -

Not really digging most of the upvoted stories these days - the past few have been ok, but honestly before that I just think - how - how did this get story get so popular. I'm not a writer myself and I'm not good at English but, from the plot holes, the grammar, and the cliches.. I just.. idk...

Anyway! That was my unpopular opinion, please kindly share yours ;) No judgement!

@FrozenInside Wow, I kind of agree with that part. Their old song was more meaningful, should I say? Hmmm. But yeah, even though they go that path, that path actually makes them more popular, and now they're like one of big names, which is good for them somehow. But still, kind of miss the old stuff.

Not a single brain cell in my brain understands why they are popular either. :DDDDD
Anyway, UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME:
I hate the rampant ism and misogyny in South Korea (not only there but also in my country). It's brought by their culture, but that's not an excuse to maltreat or belittle women. I am so glad that a feminist movement started this 2015 and I wish them all the best.

@damnationSUruck Lmao I see those a lot. XD I kind of cringe when I see them, and I live in a place where the majority of folks say it and just- no. Please stop. If people do leave feedback, then most of the time they get bashed for "hating" when in actuality it's constructive criticism that could help them. No actual source but I've seen a couple of people like on Tumblr and a few people around AFF saying they haven't really enjoyed the newer stuff.
It really does, especially if there's a certain sound that really makes them stand out. :/ It major a*s, but you still have the awesome dancing to enjoy, right? (Tries to be positive.)

@zan8901 If only, lol! And the comments their videos get on Youtube are always full of those silly new internet words people use these days ('lit', 'hype', etc.), and it's sad to see no one leaves actual feedback at all. Or even if they are, those comments are completely overshadowed by the former. If you don't mind me asking, where have you seen these older fans opinions? I'm curious to see some myself, haha.
Yeah, it's a tad confusing who really runs the music. I can see how the company controls a lot of their content, and considering the members write and compose some of their own songs, it's hard to say what's coming from where. We'll never know, to be honest. But as you said, what's popular these days is probably what everyone is going to get, whether you like it or not. And that , OTL.

@d_jinn Ah, okay. It's understandable — there are idols who's voices I don't like. Though I do think that even if you don't like his voice in general, he still is a really good vocalist.

@damnationSUruck Yeah! Ah, I see. See, I'm not all that into BTS apart from a couple of songs but I understand where you're coming from and why that would be annoying. I get changing a bit but completely changing the music altogether? That's like completely switching genres. I've actually seen quite a lot of people who were older fans saying that haven't been enjoying the newer music. Though couldn't that also be on the company? :/ It could be that they're doing "what's in" to get more fans, which is a shame.

As long as Oli sykes is screaming in my ear drums, I'm fine. XD Definitely. It's always nice when a band goes back to a past sound where it makes the fans feel all nostalgic - like a throwback. In that sense, then I think it's a bit risky to change so much. A lot of people didn't like the album Exact, and people again were saying it wasn't Exo. (I saw a few say that.) Like I said, it 'cause you can never win. :/ Definitely see what you're saying though. But it also seems like what BTS is doing now is getting a lot of attention, so that may be what they stick to for a while, which is disappointing for the fans who enjoyed their previous type of music. I wish they could see these discussions because it's seriously some nice a*s constructive criticism that they may be able to use. XD

@zan8901 Yeah, definitely! It's refreshing to have healthy discussions like this, haha.
And I totally get that artists are probably never going to please everyone by choosing either to stick to one sound, or to change it up. You'll always get complaints and criticism, but with Bangtan, I just feel that their style has done a pretty striking 180 degree turn in 2016. Definitely took me surprise, and fact is, I didn't quite like it, couldn't get used to it, and in the end, did not force myself to like it.
Bring Me The Horizon could be an example of a band where their style changed up a bit with an electronic vibe, albeit not very strikingly, but there are still fans out there who prefer their older, heavier stuff. Breaking Benjamin retained their old style with new songs, and I think a lot of people enjoyed the fact that they stayed the same/similar because most of that style in general has slowly being dying out. Same with Disturbed, whose latest album still had songs that carried through their original feel and sound, which was nice to see, and created a comfort zone for old time fans.
I can accept that Bangtan's experimenting and that their newer works will most likely keep being different from their older ones, but sometimes I wonder if so much change is good. Exo on the other hand--their change somehow works? Ah, not trying to do a full-on comparison or anything, but they always seem to carry through previous 'looks' and 'feels' into their new things, and that's somewhat comforting, because they're always recognisable.

@d_jinn I agree! Technically, Jongdae is the best vocalist but his voice isn't my type. It doesn't really soothe and melt me like Kyungsoo's or Baekhyun's singing and actually, I even prefer Jongin's vocal colour because it's a very rich tone. Jongdae can sing for sure though, he's just not one of my favourite voices to listen to.

@Emilieee There's just something in his voice that puts me off. I've never been fond of his vocals though I can't really explain into words what it is. And though I know it's a d*ck move to feel bitter about the praises he gets for his vocals, I can't help but feel that way. I mostly keep to myself though because I understand that people have different preferences and different tastes.

@Emilieee It never sounded appealing to me. There's something in his voice that I don't like. But mainly, it's just the amount of praises he gets from his vocals that fuels my irritability to his voice. I know it's a move to feel that way but I can't help it. I understand people have different tastes and different preferences but for some reason, I can't help but feel bitter about his vocals.

Like a few peeps have already said a few ways back, romance, I’m not all about it. I mean, I don’t mind when there is romance/pairings in stories and stuff, in fact I tend to include romantic relations in some of my stories, but I just wish that it wasn’t like, so heavily used all the time. Like, to me, it feels like that a lot of peeps create fanfics to focus on the romantic side of things, and I wish that more stories were created focusing on other things that I feel would be better off getting the majority of the attention, ya know? Or, at least try and create a good balance between all the different elements and genres playing part in your story – build upon a story by making something else be the thing that stands out or be the purpose for reading, then, if you’re going to include romance, have it be a side thing or something, and don’t let it overshadow everything too much unless it’s meant to I guess. Also, you don’t always need to have a couple or ships in a story. I really like the friendship genre and wished more peeps focus on the strong bond connection that friendship can bring, or even other things like family. Romance isn’t the only way to have a close relationship with someone, especially if it feels like it was too forced in a way that it doesn’t feel needed and they just did it to put their fav ship together.

Tbh, like some people have said before me. Roleplays kind of annoy me, actually they reallllly annoy me, just *sigh* They're everywhere and they're always taking up the home page. Like, I want to see stories. I want to see Fanfics because, after all, this site is called asianFANFICS. Literally, there is a sister site designed for Roleplay. Could you imagine what it would be like if I went and posted my stories on that website? I would get comments like "Oh but this is a roleplay site". Come on guys. srsly. And when they advertise on my wall OTL I delete that so fast. I'm fine for people to advertise their fics on my wall cause I know it can be hard to get views and stuff - But just not roleplay lol. Ok thanks, rant over haha

@damnationSUruck There's always something that changes. They can't keep the exact same sound and chances are there's always a different theme. I feel the thing with music is if you keep the same sound people complain that they're hearing the same thing over and over and get bored, and if you change it up people are gonna complain that it's not "the same" or that they've "changed". It sometimes when they change it up, especially if one album happens to be very good, but musicians develop over time. Even rock bands, yes, they generally don't change a whole lot because quite honestly there isn't a whole lot to change, but they do change a bit. (I have seen bands considered alternative/rock that fans grew angry because they experimented and therefore weren't "the same". The sound to them wasn't similar to how it'd been before, and so they decided to bash the band. Bashing isn't nice. ;_;) I get if you don't like a certain sound, I really do, but people get inspired by different things which may affect what music is produced (if they write the songs). All people should be able to experiment, because that is how we improve as artists. Or that's how I see it. It's nice reading what you had to say. =D
damnationSUruck
@zan8901 Ah, that's very true. Experimenting is definitely something a lot of artists turn to, but let me just point out that I've noticed this varies between genres. My example would be rock bands, which I've noticed usually always try to keep the same sound (and sometimes themes/ideas) going regardless of new albums, but thing is, they have pretty loyal fans who enjoy it. They may not get as many newer fans, but they will keep a sticking crowd. Then again, Bangtan is already gaining hundreds of fans everyday no matter what they do, so I guess they're OK, lol.

I have returned with (possibly) more unpopular opinions.
The first being the ‘do not unsubscribe’ rule most stores here have. I really don’t get it. Why do you need people to subscribe to you for life? You can’t possibly force a person to keep being subscribed, and when this demand is in actual stories, that’s truly the limit for me.
The second is one of a controversial nature. @FrozenInside, wow, I thought I was the only one imagining this. Glad to know I’m not alone! I like Bangtan. I really do. But I must say, their 2016 stuff has been relatively lackluster in comparison to their older works. It’s funny how ‘Fire’ and ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears’ is so popular and widely praised when in fact I find them to be… uninteresting, to sugarcoat it. ‘Fire’ sounds so generic I really couldn’t believe it was Bangtan. And I’m just going to pretend ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears’ never happened, truly. Their dances are still spot on, but in terms of musicality, I saw a lot go downhill this year, in my opinion. Their debut era content had so much drive and raw emotion and it was packed with meanings and motivation, but I suppose that’s not what people want anymore. And don’t even get me started on the fan service, but hey, if everyone’s enjoying it, why not, right? It’s sadly a marketing scheme, where a comment on Youtube once enlightened me that ‘fan service gets them the $$’.
This raises an interesting question though, the more I think about it. Do people actually like their new songs, or has liking Bangtan – because of how popular they now are – become sort of a fad?

I have returned with more (possibly) unpopular rants.
First one being I always found it quite silly when stores have a rule to 'not unsubscribe, even after your request is complete'. I really don't understand why it is so important to have people subscribed to you for life. You cannot force a person to do something they don't want to, and when people put this kind of thing in actual stories, that's the limit for me.
Second one is the controversial topic, involving Bangtan. Like @FrozenInside, I don't know if it's just me, but I found majority of their 2016 stuff relatively lackluster. Compared to their older things, I really could not even force myself to like any of their productions since the start of it. 'Fire' is so popular, and yet the moment I'd heard it (thinking it was going to be something smashing, I mean--yes--it's Bangtan here), I could not get over the fact that it sounded very generic. 'Blood, Sweat, and Tears' though probably did it for me in terms of taking a step back from the group, because the musicality didn't appeal to me at all. Opinions definitely vary here, but I'm always seeing nothing but excessive praise for it. When personally, I'm just going to pretend it never happened. Their dances are still spot on and creative, but there was this drive back in the day during their debut era. Their dances and the messages in their songs had power, but I guess that's not what people want anymore. Sad to see, honestly.
And don't get me started on that fan service. I think they've gone a bit too far with that 'y' look and theme, and the chorus dance for 'Blood, Sweat, and Tears' doesn't help the fact that they're putting themselves in that kind of light either. Don't get me wrong; I like Bangtan, I really do. But what they're up to now? I'll pass.
The sheer popularity and 'hype' for these songs though raises a pretty interesting question that I'd been thinking recently: do people actually really like their new songs, or have they become so popular so fast that they're sort of a fad now?

i don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I really hate it when people portray their biases as absuers/rapists and the oc gradually begins to like them and 'change' them. i really hate seeing my bias portrayed like that, even though they 'change.'

A serious pet peeve of mine is actually the constant adverts for roleplays. I mean, this is a fanfic writing site and it even has a twin site that is dedicated to roleplaying which is linked on every single page on this site that you care to go to. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why more people don't go there to advertise, especially since I know a lot of people who are really fed up and annoyed with the RP adverts here. I mean, the people who want to roleplay are more likely to be on that site, surely?
