On Zico's Tough Cookie and how everyone should get over it

Warning! Strong language and many references to "you" even though I don't really mean you. Maybe.

I want to start by saying, yeah, I get it, the word "" is one of the worst slurs to call a gay, and the confederate flag was the flag of the south trying to keep slavery, and the girls in the MV are sad. It's not something I'd want my kids listening to, it's not something I'd want to listen to with my parents, and I definitely wouldn't want people to think that I approve of the behavior. And because of that, I don't want anyone to say those ing words "STOP DEFENDING YOUR PRECIOUS OPPA!" Because anyone who says that.

It is ridiculous the amount of hate Zico and "Tough Cookie" is getting. Do people understand what hip-hop is? What real rappers rap? This is not a solo for Zico off of a Block B album, it is Zico's alone representing his work in the hip-hop world. I'm not saying "Oh, because American hip-hop artist use , he is justified." I mean, as a hip-hop artist, it's not a surprise that there is something like women with attractive bodies shaking their hips and people using vulgar words. Rap and hip-hop in general is like that. Does that mean that the behavior is okay, no, but no one ever says that rap music is a good influence.

None of this "GD doesn't do that, Taeyang doesn't do that, CL doesn't do that, Bang Yongguk doesn't do that." Um, yeah, they haven't released hip-hop like that. Despite being on the cutting edge of kpop hip-hop, their songs are still very much kpop

Honestly, I understand people getting upset over him saying , but the reaction is so wrong. How many people actually care? Who actually felt offended? Most of these people are simply feeling indignant to feel indignant. "I would never use that word, I am so disappointed." YOU DON'T REALLY CARE! A normal reaction is " is an unacceptable word and I hope Zico will not use it in the future,"(my reaction to it, btw). Not "NOW THAT HE HAS USED THE WORD, I HATE HIM, GIVE UP ON HIM, AM NOT A FAN! BUH-BAI ZICO!" Grow the up.

When I was in high school, I was part of a club whose purpose was the make the students with special needs have a better high school experience. One of the campaigns we did was to end the use of the word "retard" which is very offensive and degrading towards those with mental disabilities. If I heard someone use the word, I would politely tell them, "not cool guys" and that would be the end of it. If people continued to use the word, I would either continue to correct them or give up. Not everything is worth getting worked up about. I especially didn't bother with people who didn't care. So just as Zico, as a rapper, really doesn't care, people too shouldn't get so worked up about it.

And let's be honest, even though does have a history of being a slur, the word that is usually directed at gays is "". I know this is a weak argument, but my sister got her degree for this sort of stuff, and when I asked her, she was like "well, at least he didn't call anyone a ." Because when you get into a fight and just want to insult someone, the word "" feels really good rolling off the tongue. "You're such a ." Gosh, as a woman I am more offended by that historically oppressive word "." For shame anyone who has ever said it. A word is what you mean it to be. Zico does not mean to be a gay slur but a word used in hip-hop to insult someone who is acting like a wannabe.

Now, onto the Confederate flag. It's the exact same thing. Do you even care that the flag was used? No, not really. Were you offended by it? Did the sight of it bring up memories of being oppressed or of racism. Would you call Zico a racist? No, because using a flag is not being racist. People of the south use the flag to represent rebellion. I'm so tired of reading the comments "Zico didn't know," and then the reply "he shouldn't be so ignorant over American history." Yeah, a Korean shouldn't be ignorant of AMERICAN history. Wow.

If you really knew your history, you would know that in reality, while people claimed the Civil War was a war to keep slavery around, it was a whole lot more than that. It was a war caused more by the South getting fed up with the North taking advantage of them, both economically and politically. It was a war for the South to rebel and regain independence. When Texas wanted to suceed from the Union again, people's use of the Confederate flag was not out of racism but rebellion. There is your history lesson, ignorant s.

Yeah, some racist people still use the flag, but can we really say that the radicals represent the whole? Does that mean radical religious people should represent everyone of their religion? I'm looking at you, 'take over the world in the name of God' Christians. And are you associating Zico with those radicals? Did you see him in that MV wearing KKK cloaks, lynching blacks? No, for s sake, he was wearing a goddamn jacket. A jacket, mind you, that he most likely did not pick to wear. Is his stylist at fault then? No, again, because no one actually feels anything when they see the Confederate flag unless they are someone who actively fights black oppression. Is that you? Oh, it is, well sorry then.

I'm not even going to talk about the women because, seriously, it was a video for a reason.

International fans need to stop feeling so vindicated for things they don't even care about. They're getting mad on principle. How self important are these people? Talk about jumping on a bandwagon.

Remember when 2NE1 came out with their album Crush and CL had a solo called "Mental Breakdown"/"MTBD"? Yeah, there was this awesome part with some vocals that some people thought was part of the Quran. Then a bunch of people, and I mean an incredible amount of people, started demanding that CL change the song, apologize, and respect the religion of Islam. So many people said "I don't hear it... I am muslim and don't hear it... it's not there," yet so many more said "It's there! Here is the soundbyte! Die CL! CL." What blew my mind the most were the comments like "I'M NOT MUSLIM, BUT CL NEEDS TO RESPECT EVERYONE'S RELIGION. I'M OFFENDED!" Those self righteous s. If everyone based their actions over whether or not someone else would get offended, nothing in this world would get done. So when YG rereleased the song with a statement something like "It has come to our attention that some people are unhappy with parts of the song. We have removed those parts" and didn't apologize, I was satisfied enough. They literally owe the haters nothing.

These idols and rappers owe you nothing. You can't expect them to adhere to every social law that society has created because suddenly "equality and justice" is popular. These are whims of the masses who want something to be angry about. Zico isn't ignorant. He knows what means, and he also knows what it means when a rapper says it as a dis. He was dissing rappers who have "snapback es" with the amazing line "You're such a , ." There were plenty of other rappers in the video and song who could have said something, but wait, they're rappers too and thought it fit with the song. Because hip-hop. It is a sweet song with wicked lyrics and a hilarious Zico in a tub of cookies.

Kpop idols have to keep up a good image. When they cause trouble, they apologize when they know they are wrong or if they actually care. That's why Block B apologized when they made some innocent, yet still negatively received, comments in Thailand. Because that was their image as idols, idols that need to be idolized. As a hip-hop rapper, Zico would feed off the hatred. He doesn't need to be idoized. He doesn't need people to love everything he does. That's not hip-hop. Anyone too stupid to recognize the difference between real hip-hop and the rainbow and sparkles kpop needs a reality check. Zico doesn't give a about whether people get upset. Didn't get the point of the song? No matter what he goes through, you can't hurt him because he is a tough cookie.

Why didn't you spread more of this around the web. You don't have to anyway because I too don't give a penny about what they think.
Zico, loving that beat!

I dont give a if zico gives a that i'm offended. my offense is not about him. it's about me and the kind of person i am, and what i'm willing to tolerate and what i'm not. and i'm not tolerating any of what he's just done. Today music core got recorded on my tv and i deleted it. zico and i done. forever. now i wish him good luck. and i don't care what american rasppers do or say, because the offensive nature of their music is the very reason i dont listen to it. i dont claim any american rappers and if zico wants to act like them he can get unclaimed just like the rest. and you don't get to tell me what i find offensive. i decide that. not you.
