On the afternoon of October 10th, Sina entertainment contacted Luhan’s closest friend Gao Su Yao, and immediately conducted an exclusive interview with him. Gao Su Yao further confirmed with Sina Luhan’s reasons behind leaving, and revealed under Sina’s questioning that Luhan strongly desires to be at home and spend time with his parents, that is an important reason he decided to terminate his contract: “Actually this decision was quite sudden, it was when he was sick and returned to Beijing. Luhan really liked the feeling of living with his family, he’s been overseas for too many years, and never had time to be with his parents, the company also has strict rules about going home on vacations, even if he has no work he’s not allowed to go home….”
The news of Luhan’s contract termination caused large waves as soon as it was released and drew attention from fans, press, and industry people. Sina Entertainment also contacted Luhan’s closest friend Gao Su Yao today afternoon and conducted an exclusive interview. From our understanding, Gao Su Yao was Luhan’s classmate in high school, and the two of them got along very well; they became friends who talked about everything. Even though Luhan left to study in Korea in his last year of high school, and then became a trainee and successfully debuted, even though in the past years “people come and go”, Gao Su Yao, whom Luhan never broke contact with, is still one of his most trusted friends.
During the interview, Lao Gao further confirmed with Sina Luhan’s personal reason for the contract termination, and revealed under Sina’s questioning, that although there are many rumors and guesses, and the truth is there really were many factors that caused for this to happen, but the real reason Luhan came to this step is actually quite “sudden”. The deciding factor was not long ago, “Actually this decision was quite sudden, it was when he was sick and returned to Beijing. Luhan really liked the feeling of living with his family, he’s been overseas for too many years, and never had time to be with his parents, the company also has strict rules about going home on vacations, even if he has no work he’s not allowed to go home, and he has to stay in Seoul. This time when he came home, he realized that his parents have gotten old, and need him by their side. This is the most important reason for him.”
On September 11th, Luhan posted a Weibo to apologize to fans “Due to excessive exhaustion over a long period of time, I’ve been having persistent headaches, sleeping problems, and I feel dizzy often. The doctor insisted that I rest for a while. I cannot attend the Thailand concert. I’m really really sorry.” After that he rested at home, and on 9/20 and 9/21 he attended EXO’s last Asia tour stop in Beijing.
According to our sources, Luhan’s reasons for contract termination are as follows:
1) The company cannot provide a detailed future plan
2) Difference in treatment for Chinese and Korean members
3) Schedules were not assigned reasonably
4) Health problems due to overwork and stress.
Sina probed into the details during the interview, but because it was related to the lawsuit, Lao Gao did not want to comment, and said that his reasons came down to not being on the same page with his company: “There are lots of reasons, but the most important is probably that they do not have the same ideals. The company’s way of doing things did not take the members’ individual desires into account at all. To give a small example, he has very serious acrophobia, and without it affecting his work, he hopes to fly direct when possible instead of going back and forth, that way he can shorten his flight times and lessen his mental stress. But this request was almost never approved. Many reasonable long-term requests he wanted to discuss were never approved, so he felt very disheartened.”
Regarding Luhan’s acrophobia, Sina was able to find some information from Luhan’s past schedules after this interview. For example, one time for “Happy Camp” recording, Luhan joked that he was the most scared in the group, “because I’m afraid of heights, I’ll get nervous even in the elevator, don’t even mention airplanes. And we always fly back and forth for our schedules, so every day I’m very anxious. It’s laughable when you say it, but to this day I have yet to go on a rollercoaster, I’m scared to.”
Luhan himself knows that his action taken will put him under a lot of pressure, and it will be a long and slow process. But for the sake of going home, he is determined. When asked about whether Luhan is ready for the storm of comments, Lao Gao replied that Luhan’s mindset is very good right now, “his biggest wish is for fans to not worry about him, and he will rest well to adjust his body condition during this period.”
BREAKING: SINA REPORTS EXO-M LUHAN HAS FILED LAWSUIT AGAINST SM ENTERTAINMENT
In breaking news, Chinese media site Sina is reporting that EXO-M’s Luhan is filing lawsuit against SM Entertainment.
Chinese media portal Sina has reported they have received exclusive information that EXO member Luhan has filed a lawsuit today at 9AM KST against his agency, SM Entertainment, for an invalid contract.
The report ends there, with Sina summarizing information about EXO-M and Luhan. Sina is reporting this the exact way they broke the news that EXO-M’s Kris would be leaving the group earlier this year.
SM Entertainment has gone under many conflicts this year starting with EXO Kris’s lawsuit against the agency four months ago, f(x) Sulli’s sudden hiatus following a confirmation of her relationship with Dynamic Duo’s Choiza, and most recently, the withdrawal of Jessica from Girls’ Generation.

BREAKING: SINA REVEALS LUHAN’S 4 REASONS FOR FILING LAWSUIT AGAINST SM ENTERTAINMENT
After an initial report about EXO-M’s Luhan filing a lawsuit against SM Entertainment, Sina has followed up with a report revealing the reasons Luhan has filed termination for his contract with SM Entertainment.
Earlier today, we broke news that EXO-M’s Luhan would be filing for a contract termination lawsuit against SM Entertainment. Since then, it was revealed Luhan would be using the same lawyer as Hangeng and Kris, who also filed lawsuit against SM Entertainment.
More updates quickly came in, with SM Entertainment’s stock plummeting with the news, and fellow member Lay left a heartfelt message for Luhan on his Weibo.
Sina has now revealed a report with 4 reasons as to why Luhan has filed termination against his agency, SM Entertainment. The reasons are as follows:
1. SM Entertainment is not able to give good future development plans for Luhan.
2. There is a discrimination in terms of treatment between Korean and Chinese members
3. The allocations of resources are not reasonable.
4. Experiencing health issues due to over-exhaustion in both body and in stress.
While the specific details in Luhan’s case are unique, in general, the lawsuit and reasons are very similar to Hangeng and fellow EXO-M member, Kris (Wu Yifan).
Luhan has been long reported to not be feeling well due to fatigue, having symptoms of waking up in the middle of the night, an uncomfortable feeling in his chest and persistent headaches. There were also serious times when he experienced difficulty in breathing.
While previously filming for the Chinese movie “Back to 20” and also performing at EXO’s concerts, Luhan had to work through many nights and was flying back and forth constantly.
Due to long term lack of sleep, stress, and irregular meal hours, Luhan’s body could not take it anymore. Luhan left a personal apology on September 11th to his fans, through his Weibo for not attending EXO’s concert in Thailand. While pushing himself endlessly, he was able to attend the last 2 nights of EXO’s finale stop in Beijing.
According to reports, SM Entertainment coordinates schedules for artists without consulting with them for their opinion, or considering their personal situations. Instead, the company notifies the artists after the schedules have been placed. When Luhan requested for a leave, the company would reject the request and respond that activities have already been set and that he must follow the schedule.
Luhan also reportedly expressed concern that while the group has gained popularity throughout the years since their debut, there is no solid plan laid for their progress and growth. The artist is reported to have revealed, “It is a working environment where it feels like [we are] robots in a factory.”
While Luhan has received requests for acting and advertising opportunities, none of them lead to successful negotiations. Between 2012 - 2013, EXO-K had over 5 endorsement projects, but EXO-M did not nearly have the same.
In terms of individual opportunities in Korea, there is an obvious discrimination towards the different nationalities. It is also highlightable that when EXO promotes on shows, the Korean members get a significantly longer screen time than their Chinese counterparts.
