[MODERATORS] Reporting Content on AFF & Plagiarizers

Per a message from the Moderators:

Good day, everyone.

We've recently noticed an influx of reports on plagiarized stories here on AFF. While this is certainly a good thing and is not to be overlooked or shrugged off, we would like to address the sheer number of reports coming in. They have risen to a staggering amount; some twenty or so reports for one story. It's become very overwhelming, as there aren't that many of us to check and respond to every one. Therefore, we'd like to make it known that users can check to see whether a story has been reported or not via the Report Content button (click on View Reports (if any)) to see if a report has already been filed to us, the moderators. If you see that it has been reported, especially if it has already been handled and closed, we ask that you do not file a duplicate report. It adds up, and we are forced to sort and close each and every report while replying to them en masse, as we would not like users to think they are being ignored.

Also, we've seen that some readers of stories being plagiarized are taking it upon themselves to wall post and message the authors on these issues, and many of the messages are malicious and vulgar, even. Bear in mind that this is still against site policy, no matter who you are speaking to, and may result in the suspension of your account(s). Authors, please do not encourage your readers to send messages to the authors; reporting the content guarantees a looksee from us, and we will notice if things are becoming out of control. If a story is being plagiarized or reposted over several accounts, we will notice and take action. Sending your readers after someone is a discourtesy and there may be consequences for all accountable or involved.

We only want everyone to enjoy themselves on the site, that is all. Again, we are impressed to see the steps being taken to help prevent and quash the number of plagiarized stories on the site, but inflammatory messages and hateful posts and comments are only sinking to a level one mustn't sink to. Thank you.

A user that keeps on posting blog posts with lots of curses and keeps trying to get into a fight with other uses can mean trouble right? I mean, I am not the only who is complaining about that user. The user pisses everyone off.

It was brought to my attention that a user plagiarized every story on their profile from my livejournal while I was inactive. I made an account so I can report them for plagiarizing my work. Should I report every story as plagarized including a link to my original post on it or would one report suffice?

Umm hi i have this problem whereby whenever i type in my story and save, then i go to check it, suddenly the latest part of it disappears. Its really scaring me. I've tried logging out and logging in several times but the parts seem to not come back. Sometimes it does show but other times it just remains the first few sentences that i have written before. When I write in the rest of the story and save and go check that whole part is missing. When I log out and try to check it again, the missing part is still not there. And when i uncheck the draft option and save, and sign out, i go back to see it still being a draft. I tried waiting for a while and trying again but it still happens. :/ i wonder why it's like this i don't think i can update my stories like that :/

I'm glad plagiarism is getting awareness.

Knew this would happen once the anti-plagiarism story was featured; I do love that the issue has become more salient and people are getting more educated about it, though, but poor mods, having to work over time. I think we can learn as we go, though.

I think banning IP addresses could work to an extent, until the thief logs in elsewhere, and start doing it again - but at least that makes it slightly harder for them, right? If it's harder, that might be a deterrent. Then again, what do I know about tech?

Hello! The plagiarism issues have been circulating like crazy in AFF and sometimes it is the same person who did it, no matter how many times the usernames she created has been banned.
I have a suggestion for this. How about banning the IP address instead of the username?

Very good idea, and I agree about the bashing.
Bashing is STILL bashing, no matter how you look at it.
