Open Beta Test: Looking for Layout Designers to Test New Layout Marketplace

I made a marketplace for layouts for layout designers to showcase their layouts and allow for an easy way to install new designs without having to constantly mess around with the HTML code.

The way it will work is that when you create a new marketplace layout, you enter your HTML code in the layout code box as usual. But instead of lorem ipsum text for test content, enter {CONTENTID1}, {CONTENTID2}, etc instead. What this does is that when a user finds your layout in the marketplace and wants to use it, they just have to activate it for it to automatically show up in the section they activated it for. Users that want to use your layout can then place their own text between [CONTENTID1]their text here[/CONTENTID1] tags to let the system know to replace {CONTENTID1} with their text. If a user doesn't have [CONTENTIDx] tags in their content, the system automatically places all of their text in your {CONTENTID1} placement.

For right now, easy layout activations are only available for story descriptions, forewords, and chapters but will branch out to other sections depending on demand.

For more detailed instructions on using and making layouts, go to http://www.asianfanfics.com/page/faq#layout1.

This is just the first draft of the layout marketplace and it is still under development depending on how much interest you guys have with it which is why I am not having AFFHelper make a general announcement about this just yet.

If the layout designers are interested in working with the new system and testing it out, the layout marketplace is located at http://www.asianfanfics.com/layout/view_marketplace. From there you can create a new layout or try the existing sample layout with your stories.

To test the layouts, go to your story's foreword view, then look for the link that says "change description layout" at the bottom of that page.

As a layout designer, you can either allow your layouts to be installed for free by setting the price to 0 or you can also set prices for your layouts based on karma points.

The other great thing about this is that if a layout designer wanted to make some tweaks to the layout, all stories with this layout installed will be automatically updated with the new layout. Conversely, be careful with changing your layouts if you have a large install base!

Feel free to play around with the new system and we'll see where to take it from here.

hi :)
so there was someone who took my layout and placed it on the layout marketplace

is there some way to delete it? or rather, is there some way for HER to delete the layout, since there doesn't seem to be a way of deleting layouts on the marketplace. especially since she's charging 50 karma points for a layout normally free to all users.

is there a tag that can allow people who use my layouts to change links? For example, i this friends section on my layout that is supposed to be linked to their friends, is there a tag that will allow them to change that link?

Is there some kind of short-cut to the layout marketplace instead of having to type out the URL every time I want to go there?

I tested it out here, and I was wondering if the content id tags were done properly? However, this idea is wonderful, and I really appreciate all the effort you've put into this and everything else. Thanks so much, Jason!

Sounds super innovative and fancy! I don't use layouts though so I probably shouldn't even been speaking right now. Be able to charge karma points for layouts seems like a good way to expand karma's uses. I remember when it was used for almost nothing but changing your username!

I at making layouts but this feature is definitely useful! Less time to browse around at different layout shops, haha. I'll be sure to test it out when I have time (basically when finals are over. Too stressed right now -_-). Thanks so much for the new feature! ^^

Boss, you have no idea how this is so timely. This Keeper was staring at Layout Galleries [and was close to join a giveaway] LAST NIGHT because I want to have a layout set. I even blogged about the anime forum credits I earned for a poem that I can now afford the profile icons and kinda thought that it would be cool for AFF to have an i-shop, then thought against it...coz users... and WELL. I LIKE THIS. PAHAHA. And this is also in my wishlist. A separate section WAHAHA. THANK YOU. Gonna test it out. See how it works. /rolls away/

I am 99.9% clueless about layouts so this blog feels like I'm reading some incredibly complex scientific report, but whatever you've done, I'm sure we'll all appreciate it?! :D
Thank you for the effort, I'm sure the layout designers would really appreciate it.
