Fanfic Writer Interview

Taken from LoveLoveShells, aka Robo.

1. Why did you start writing?

I started writing as a student in a classroom, guided writing and occasionally narrative writing (but oh so rare for PMR candidates). And then I discovered the world of fanfiction when I was 15 when my friend, Arxhyhis introduced me to Asianfanfics with the story "Don't Let Me Fall". I started going through the website, accountless and just randomly browsing through. And I thought about the whole idea of this fanfic world to be very interesting. The fact that you can change one passion to another which is writing. And it toys with your imagination in a whole different angle seeing the stories are about your favourite artists, people that you know and such. So then I started to get interested in possibly making my own little bit of contribution to the fanfiction world. And thus started writing.

2. Who inspired you to write?

Not really an actual person... More like the strong liking of the amazing idea of fanfiction itself brought me into writing.

3. Where does your fanfic ideas come from?

I've once thought about making them out of a huge drama I went through when I was 15. That was the peak of my life when I saw the different side of my friends and classmates. Such ugly sides and how they affected me greatly. But then I thought I couldn't possibly convert that bunch of drama into context, at least not at my capacity right now. So now, my ideas come randomly at times. Or simply when I'm sitting down thinking, keeping myself occupied with thoughts and something happens at that moment like a roach passing by, bam there's my idea >_> They come unintentionally at times.

4. If you read other Fanfiction writers, who is it?

A bunch of them I guess. Sometimes I read more than one story by the same author as well. To say my favourite fanfiction writer... For now it would be CharleneSa who's writing tends to make suspense form in me and sometimes the simplest composed sentences are just... I would never... her writing is close to reaching the 'ace bar' in the world of fanfic to me. She is also a dear sister to me X] 12vojenn; first completed fanfic I've ever read and her writing is much to my liking. And Catharsis Factor by staticdream is also growing on me. I read her 'A Trip to the Dreaming World' before Catharsis Factor and thought it was nice, light reading. But then when I read Catharsis Factor, that poked my enthusiasm button much more.

5. Why do you write the group(s) you write about?

I'm not really biased when it comes to writing stories >< Sometimes I simply think of the idea and write the draft without even thinking of a specific group. Before I start writing only then I try to think who would fit in the best in my imagination.

But for slightly more major stories that I want to put in more effort to, I'd pick Super Junior seeing I'm most passionate about them in the world of Asian entertainment. And it's interesting that they have a lot of members XD

6. Have any writer friends?

Yes. Quite a few. It's usually I become friends with them, then I'd read their stories. It's rare that I communicate with my subscribed fics authors on their walls. I like dropping comments in their fics, so I guess that's where we talk. But I do have a few authors that I talk about their stories out of their fic comment walls.

7. Which member you dislike and like writing the most?

I like writing Cho Kyuhyun the most. Because well... I like to imagine him in my head and somehow I can always fit his appearance into the characters I make up. I mean... dude it's Kyuhyun. He can be adorable, bad , boastful, playful, segak and other adjectives >_>

I do not have anyone I dislike writing of. Not yet that is.

8. What do you love and hate about writing?

What I love about writing is that it gives me a chance to break out of my life, putting me in an alternate universe where I get to express myself in a different way. Where I could write what I want to and make it come to life through writing. And sharing it is even better.

I am not one to have a capability that makes me shine brighter than others. But with writing, I don't care. I do it because I want to and I don't care about judgments coming from teachers or my parents. And it feels good that I can have something to put effort in and liking the product, feeling that satisfaction that I can't expect anyone else to give me.

Hate about writing? The amount of time it takes from a day. Sometimes I spend 2-3 hours writing a chapter. Sometimes more and between school, chores, homework and tuition, it takes A LOT of my time.

9. How many subscribers do you have?

96 with five others who reads without an account. It's a big number to me. For people who reads my imagination in contexts, that's a lot to me.

10. If someone ask you advice about writing, what would you say?

Writing in a way is a very personal thing. Regardless if you're writing your own story or someone else's, the process of it will definitely make you absorb in it even if it's just a little. And because of this, when you write remember how it affects you the most. The readers come second. Because you shouldn't write because of others, because of the adrenaline rush you get out of the number of subscribers. Write because it starts with you, and it ends with you as well. That will add up to pure enjoyment, passion and sometimes feel bad by making a piece of writing that you're satisfied with.
