Basic Info and Classes:

V5 – The vampire virus; it was previously called Sanguis Morbus, the latim for Blood Sickness.

The modern name, however, is based on the five stages of the virus, Class A, B, C, D and E.

It’s an old strong, uncommon virus transmitted by blood and still not known of any cure.

It modifies the body of the victim completely; the flesh becomes harder, increasing their resistance dramatically; the human canines fall out, giving space for new ones to grow; a whole new set of tendons and muscles are created to make the body faster and the blood regeneration is five times faster than humans as long as they keep well-fed of human blood.

Convertors – The vampires who bite and pass the virus to a human without bonding with them, letting them turn into rebels. These are criminals since spreading the virus is a crime.

Awakening Day – The day the human is converted into a full vampire. Many tend to think of their awakening day as the day they were bitten but the correct date, as the name says, it’s the day they wake up from the transformation.

The transformation is different for everyone, dependent on their Convertor’s blood and their own; it can take a few days, weeks or the rarest, months for the victim to wake up.

Many clans consider the Awakening Day as the replacement for the human birthday since all the memories of the ‘past’ life is gone. Usually, it’s the person’s Master who organizes a party in honor of their Protected.

Vampire-born people don’t have an Awakening Day.

Class A Vampires – These come from full blooded vampire parents. Most of them belong to the nobility, coming from old, wealthy families. Full blooded vampires are not that common since many of them die even before being born, the virus being too strong for the baby to accept it. This class is the stronger one by far.

Class B Vampires – Born from a vampire and human parent, a half-born. These are strong and many of them coming from important families as well, however, they’re not as strong as anyone from class A.

Class C Vampires – Class C is the most common class, being the ones who were previously humans and were infected and turned by either class A or B. These are the ones who are called ‘The Protected’, the ones who have a Master and a new family; they’re 100% rational and the virus is controlled due to their Master’s blood.

Class D Vampires a.k.a. Rebels – Victims of a Vampire Convertor. They don’t own a Master or a last name. Without any kind of vampiric bond and blood to control and support the virus, it weakens and has other characteristics that the Protected don’t. Many of them lose their memory but stay rational to the world around them. They’re raged vampires out of control who hunt in packs and are smart enough to live hidden between human communities. Rebels are weaker than any Protected or common vampire. Their bite however, can either be fatal to a human or transform them into Beasts.

This race is allergic to the sun, many hours under it can cause a grave skin burn.

Class E / Beasts – They’re the victims of Rebels. When the virus reaches their blood system they can either die, the virus becoming too strong for them to resist or they can survive it, bringing them the animalistic side of the virus only.

They’re clawed beings with very slightly longer fangs than the other vampires and not rational at all, being savage, wild and suspicious even to their own kind, attacking anyone they see.

They’re creatures of the night only, their eyes being the opposite of the normal ones so they can see better in the dark. Their skin is extremely sensitive to the sun; being under it would cause the virus in their blood react like acid inside their veins and melt their organs.

A bite from a beast to a human is fatal and they can’t convert anyone.

Hybrids – Rare beings that were bitten by rebels and turned and fed from a Vampire from class A or B. They can be rational but highly illegal; freaks towards the vampire community.

The few that were captured were known by having two races within them, being half-beast, half-vampire. Their power can reach the ranking of a Class B or even A, being that the reason why they’re so feared by the vampire community.

Their behaviour is not yet well known; there are cases in which people affirm that they are extremely violent and others who say they are rational beings capable of living with the other species. However, the Tribunal has forbidden their existence and whoever covers a Hybrid will be punished with death or exile.

Vampire Society:

Clans – A clan is a group of many families who are leaded by a Class A vampire. A clan leaded by a vampire Class B gets less consideration then an A.

They live in hidden, isolated places such as restored old mansions or private buildings and have many businesses going on between humans to keep their economy stable and working.

Politics – In the vampire society there are no ministers or rulers. There is only the power of each Clan, the leaders being responsible by their own area, having to control the vampires who live there by accepting them or getting rid of them.

Many clans, however, don’t want to deal with Beasts and Rebels and pay with favors or money to other fellow clans to get rid of them.

The Tribunal – The Tribunal is what keep clans from fighting each other and what gives balance between the communities. They’re a group of elders, the previous leaders of the most powerful clans; powerful people who make the rules for each clan to follow, based on everyone’s interests.  

However, being called by the Tribunal is never a good thing.

If committed a crime, the person will be arrested, having their life searched on to detail and in a few days, judged by the leaders of the local clans in the Tribunal.

Chains - The Chains are a tradition born in the Vampire Nobility many centuries ago; objects that the master chooses and gives to their Protected at their first Awakening. The Chain can be any object as long as it has the Master’s seal/crest on it; it can be a ring, a necklace, an earring, a watch, and the most common, a tattoo.

Tattoos, some Masters thought, were the best option to mark their Protected as theirs; while rings could be easily lost, tattoos would be done in visible places like the neck or the wrist and everyone would know to whom they belonged to. However, Chains are merely a tradition and many and more considerate Masters decided that an object would be enough.

Chains, however, are not made exclusively for decorative reasons. As the tradition grew, the Tribunal decided to implant some laws about them that would help to shield the Protected from angry attackers that had unsolved business with their Masters.

At the time, many Protected suffered at other people’s hands when they were not found with their Masters and sent home hurt as a warning; the chains came to control that.

If a chained Protected is found being physically assaulted, the aggressors will be taken to the Tribunal and forced to pay for their crimes. No Protected shall pay for their Master’s actions or be touched at all without the presence thereof.

Relationships:

Bond – Bonding means having a very special link with another person and it can be created by many different ways.

The bond by blood is used between Masters and their Protected, giving them the power to perform the Call.

To create a bond between Master and Protected, the Master should either a class B or A since C’s are already too weak to perform such thing and the Protected can only be a human that has been infected by the virus.

To bond with that human, there is no need to be their convertor but they must have their Master’s blood as their first meal in order to pacify the virus. Once they create a bond, both souls will be linked together; a fragment of the Master’s soul being given to the Protected and the Protected’s to the Master’s.

The bond by mating is three times more powerful than the normal bond. It’s more than connecting two souls, its giving part of it to their partner.

Mating – Mating is creating the most powerful of the bonds and can be done in two ways:

1. By forcing the bond by brain power with the help of their clans in a complicated ritual of meditation and blood exchange;
2. By creating a strong emotional relationship, exchanging blood and making love.

Having and making love however, is very different. Vampires can have without mating; the bond is only made when both souls are mutually ready for it and somehow call for each other by instinct.

It’s possible for Masters and protected to mate as well. Even if those already have a bond and desire to mate, what is going to happen is a ‘changing process’; meaning that both souls will not just be linked together, they’ll morth and transform into one single shared soul.

Masters and Protected don't need a blood exchange to complete the mating because they already have a blood bond.

Marriage and Romantic Relationships- Vampires, unlike many humans, don’t mind genders; however, marriage can only happen between men and women.

It’s not uncommon to find same ed masters and protected bonding in an intimate or ual way but there are rules; Masters can never treat their protected like and ‘share’ them. If something like that happens the master in cause will be seen as a disrespectful person and taken to court.

The Protected, however, can have relationships with outside individuals. The bond they share with their master will not affect the bond they can create by mating with someone they choose. Many Protected, however, can become mentally and emotionally unstable if they are not able to differentiate and control both bonds.

Mate – The person whose soul was fused with another's and is sharing it. Can be either their partners’ lover or not, the latter being used as an arranged mating, joining clans and businesses.

Master – The master is the pure blooded or half-born vampire who converts a human and lets them drink from their blood, creating a bond with them. A respectful master gives their last name to their Protected and if needed, the first too.

Normally, a vampire will only have one single Protected; if powerful enough, since the bond is made by soul connection, it’s possible to have more.

Protected – The vampires who were previously humans and accepted by their convertor or rescued in time by another, letting them feed from them, gaining their last name and blood. From the moment they receive their Master’s last name they belong to the vampire’s family.

The Call – It’s a power gained only by bonding, capable of calling the other person via mind power as an alert or SOS. It can be either controlled or unconscious.
