Fic Meme 2018

Fics that were written in 2017. Stole this from MissMinew~

Fic Meme 2018

Total stories published: 70 fics + 3 applyfics + 5 contests + 2 shops + 2 misc. = 82

Total Word Count: 1,612,918

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

I thought less, but seeing that I've written ten stories and four out of the ten are completed, I think I've done more than I predicted.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

BTS Jungkook x Lovelyz Yein. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the pairing and I hated Yein being paired with Jungkook. But I decided to challenge myself by writing the pair I disliked most in 2016 and so they happen.

Genre-wise, thanks to all of the Fantasy Contest in 2017, I found myself writing more fantasy than what I'd normally write. Fantasy has always been a weaker point of mine since I'm not a fan of fantasy novels.

What's your own favorite story of the year?

Since my 2017 fics are mostly one shot and messy ones at that, if I have to choose, I'd say it's Anna's Love which is from my A Gift for Friends - One Shot Collection.

Did you take any writing risks this year?

I'd say yes..? As mentioned before, I've been working with mainly fantasy last year.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?

Hm, to complete my published stories then get going on a few of my fanfics I have drafted.

From my past year of writing what was...

My best story of this year: It's an ongoing fic though, Romance in the Church

My most popular story of this year: Once again Romance in the Church. In terms of subscribers (who doesn't read the story xD).

The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Mister Sungyeol Junior. This one-shot was actually a Secret Santa gift. The person I wrote it to never read (or maybe he/she did but never commented). I'm a bit bitter about that. It's not written beautifully but it was different.

The most fun story to write: Know My Name. Another one-shot from my requested collection. It was my first time writing Jongin as a protagonist and since Myungsoo was second lead, I just had fun writing their interactions. Oh, how I wish they were friends in real life, lol. It was also fun to write about Egypt.

The story with the single iest moment:  Hm, I rarely write stories with y moments so PASS! xD

The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Yup, nothing like that in 2017 xD

The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I'd say The Murderer Who Laughs. Sungyoon/Y was supposed to be the antagonist but in the end, it didn't feel like it..?

The hardest story to write: Break the Present. Part of the collection one-shot (again). I attempted the story opening five different ways and what made it harder was that it featured SHINee. Or it was supposed to. It happened in December and because it didn't feel right to complete the story having all of the members in the story, I rewrote the whole story featuring only the lead Taemin.

The biggest disappointment: Black or Red and White. The story that starred Yein and Jungkook to get me to love the ship. It's incomplete and on hiatus, but with seven chapters released it feels dull? Cliche? And just bottom line lame? The story was poorly planned (like the majority of my stories) and written, and I have to admit I didn't really put much effort into it. Kudos to those who read it but I'm sorry you read it.

The biggest surprise: Know My Name. Maybe because I had fun writing every moment of it, it ended up being a 10k one-shot.

The most unintentionally telling story: Romance in the Church. Probably the most confusing story in 2017, but luckily for
me, my readers have been giving me good advice and pointers in the comments <3.

Favorite Opening Line(s)

Well, I have four opening lines I can't choose among... in no particular order.

  • The entrance to the tunnel was his only way in, but so was it his only way out.
  • The merciless storm coerced an unfortunate, sickly soul into an icy cave for cover.
  • He could hear everything but dare not open his eyes. What difference will it make? He’s visually impaired.
  • Traveling through or over unfathomable marshlands has always been a simple task for those who could fly. And you would think the Princess of fairies, with her pristine complexion, elevated, voluptuous structure that she, too, would possess the most enchanting, glamorous, and evenly wings of all. But you’re slightly wrong.

Favorite Closing Line(s):

Hm, since there could be a few I decided to stick with only fics/one-shots that are completed. Again in no particular order:

Favorite 5 Lines from Anywhere:

Oh gee, this is going to be hard xD Some will be quotes~

  •  “I'll remind you for the last time Myungsoo. Either end your visitations or go without giving me updates. It kills the mood, specifically mine,”

  • Mud squelched under her fabric silver slippers as she prowls the depressing area; questing for her favorite human food.

  • “My favorite word is…,” Hongki took a deep breath before finishing, “Jaejin…,”

  • “Like I said to report it or not, it’s up to you. I’ll appreciate it if you do call the cops over though. I could really use a place to stay in the meantime,”

Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:

  • The scene wasn't in the story itself but implied through a letter. A scene where Bomin is writing his letter in The Murderer Who Laughs

I'm just going to stick with two scenes since I'm too lazy to add three more xD

Fic-writing goals for 2018:

Finish ongoing and even hiatus fics. 2018, treat me better please! Fighting!

Well, first of all, I loved Mister Sungyeol Junior. It was a really good one shot and was different. Second, reading your favorite lines, it made me curious and also frustrated, but I'll have to wait to read TWO of those, since they're contest entries OTL...
This was fun to read. I'm going to steal it;).
