Reptile Diary pg. 1

This is a little blog series that I'll be starting. It's about my two cold-blooded sons! I just have too much love for them, so much that I simply HAVE to share their daily lives and habits with you all! (Even though I know most of you won't read this, hehe).

Christmas Day 2017 (late evening)

Due to a power outage, Legato (bosc monitor lizard) had a rough fifteen minutes. A ceramic heat bulb burst on my hand and it hurt a little (not as bad as 5.0 molarity hydrochloric acid from AP chemistry, but nothing to play around with). So he's working with a halogen bulb for a second overhead heater (he still has one ceramic bulb that is working), and I gotta run out first thing in the morning tomorrow to grab a new heat emitter. Reptiles are EXPENSIVE. But yeah.

Also, this little boy (he's 3 years old, and I've had him for 2 years) has FINALLY warmed up to me. A little too much. He thinks my fingers look like his favorite food (raw shrimp), especially my thumb. My thanks for getting his heating fixed up in a pinch? Narrowly dodging a chomp from my little boy...and he's NOT small or harmless. At all. When he's a little older, he'll be able to tear tendons in my hand, so...great...but it's better than him being aggressive towards me or fearful.

Cuff (red-eared slider turtle), my other son, has had an uneventful day. The lucky lazy lump of a reptile tends to not get up to much (other than breaking his filter last year, and occasionally trying to "mate" with the largest rock in his tank...). He's a lot easier on my wallet, sanity, and health, but changing out his water (weekly) takes a lot of physical strength. Fill up a bucket with 5 gallons of water (18.9 liters for the metric people), and carry it around without splashing it, then lift it up above your shoulders, and slowly pour it out. Do that about 3-4 times, and you have my Saturday evening.
