does anyone have any experience w/ accutane and/or birth control...

hi guys my derm prescribed me accutane for my acne............... if you haven't heard of it it's this super intense 6-month acne treatment- basically a pill you have to take every day- that gives you clear skin for like the rest of your life. however, it can have CRAZY bad side effects.... like super super severe (crohn's disease, terrible depression, liver problems, hair falling out, weight gain, etc....... but the variability of people getting these seems to be really high???). but i already have problems with depression and i'm REALLY nervous about that especially??

i also apparently have to go on birth control to go on accutane???? and i'm freaking out about that too??? because birth control has a lot of side effects that can go along with it too??? like im going on lo loestrin or something

anyway if anyone has any experience w/ either of these things please tell me ive been ing freaking out so hard the entire day....... oh my god......

hello! I've had accutane before for my back acne a few years back, I didn't consume it for the whole cycle though (i think i only ate it for 2weeks until my back acne soothed out then i stopped and it never came back and i hope it doesn't) because it's actually not good (not only just this, but all other medicine) to consume long-term unless really needed for long-term kind of illness :/ Also i've heard if you take medicine for acne stuff, it surpresses the acne for that time period but if anything goes wrong it might come back stronger(?) since the body is kind of "used to" to medicine you're taking thus other side effects or so... My face acne is not super bad but it does break out often but i always try to use physical skincare to treat it and eat cleaner and drink more water to make it better. Personally won't recommend getting pills for acne :/ that is if it's not super severe to the point it's causing u alot of troubles here and there. and yes birth control pills goes along with it and i am not sure why. ALSOOO if you were to take the pills anyway, drink more water!! that's what i was told from the clinic so i hope it helps :DD

Legit depends on the birth control dosage. I legit have the weakest of the birth controls because I don't need too many hormones, like other women may need. It all just depends on your body chemistry. When I started, I was nauseous every morning , had migraines, and was really ing depressed(like pregnancy side effects). I didn't need to eat as much, but I was very unhappy. However, the moment I started working out, the depression went away.

If acne is want you are most worried about there is other treatment plans for it that don't have bad effects. Before you go on accutane try a chemical peel- it will burn and it can leave chemical burns if not done properly. There is also the option of laser treatment or a new face routine.

i was on birth control for about a year (not any more because I graduated college an no longer have my student insurance at my university) and i only had two side effects which was a loss of appetite which led to some weight loss and (warning tmi) my area wouldn’t get wet anymore was i was aroused (thank god for lube lol). those weren’t very big problems for me and i don’t recall any other side effects other then maybe being a little over sensitive emotionally when i first started taking it but after a few months i was pretty much back to normal. your body needs to take a few months to adjust to the birth control and everyone’s body adjust differently to different types of birth control.

as for accutane i’ve never used it but i have a friend with a small youtube channel and she’s reviewed it on their if you want to check it out! her channel is called Unstandard Beauty.

I was on birth control for 4 or 5 years now and i can honestly say it was the best thing ever. I had no issues with it, it actually helped me with maintaining my weight as well and i always knew exactly when my period was coming and it gave me the freedom to 'skip' it if it was to come at a bad time. It also helped with my skin and my period pains. Just make sure to tell your doctor if you smoke, bc that doesn't go to well with birth control pills.
Stop freaking out over it because it's gonna be fine and your skin is gonna be amazing. Most of those side effects are super rare and the probabilities of you having them are extremely low

I'm on birth control right now. The side effects will vary person to person. The first pill I was on, Sprintec, had the main side effect of drowsiness. I got increased appetite instead and my weight spiked for a few months. Three pill changes later, I'm on Chateal. The thing now is that my birth control messed with my metabolism so now its extremely hard to gain weight, which is what my doctor wants me to do.

Accutane is a really good medicine for acnes in general,if your doctor prescribed it to you don't worry too much about the side effects because they don't usually happen and birth control pill is also good for acne problems which is related to your ovaries vice hormone related causing acnes and all.So overall,if you are still young don't worry too much.My skin is so much better now.

I've haven't heard about this treatment but hearing all those makes me really nervous.
I am more of a "stay on the safe side" person when it comes to health because health is really wealth.
I used to have breakouts as well but very recently it has receded and now just some. I want to say everything comes with time. And going against nature... like birth control isn't really good?
Anyhow do try to opt for other options as well. Because who knows some stuff might be out there which is amazing for you without any such side affects.

hey, so i've been prescribed to accutane but i don't think it was proper intake on my part because i didn't go on birth control and i didn't even take it for 6 months. maybe because of that it didn't really clear my skin up (kbeauty and natural products helped WAAY more for me, fortunately), but I didn't really experience any of the side effects you mentioned. then again i wasn't really doing it properly. basically from my experience, i was on it for about 1-2 months only probably lol and it didn't give me any of the side effects (like, none at ALL, other than having dryer skin (??)) so maybe you can use that a lil as a short term reference :)

for me with the birth control i gained weight.. but not like crazy, and i didnt have period anymore (idk its actually really good for me because i always have really bad cramps but is isnt good for your body i think?) and with the accutane i first broke out really bad but i heard that thats normal bevause all of your upcoming pimples ‚pop out‘ (lol idk how to describe that) but then my skin dried out extremely but with time my skin looked really smooth and i didnt break out anymore.. but my acne marks and scars are still there.. i‘m thinking about going to get a chemical peel for the scars.. yeah bur overall it really takes time and patience but it works!

i hope it works for you too when you take it... acne but dont let it bring you down <333 fighting

I have heard of it before. Actually I'm also on medication to treat my acne but my dermatologist think and feel that mine is not too bad till the extend where I have to take accutance. She doesn't really like the idea of me going on strong medication so she put me on tropical treatment and give me some face wash.. However due to my sensitive skin I do experience some effect so I don't use it on daily basis . I sort of skip some days to let my skin rest and breath... I still do have blemishes and breakout but applying too much of medication on long term can bring harm. Try talk to your dermatologist and see if there's other options..

I've been on birth control for over a year, and the only side effect I've had is literally no period.
