Hi, I like talking about my stories #3

It is currently 10.10 PM and I should be sleeping but to hell with that.

#1 and #2 are here if they have any interest. (#1 is character backgrounds while #2 are titles)

So today I wanted to talk about the financial background of my characters because I realized (as I was rereading For the First Time and then moved onto Mors Voluntaria) that I might have a habit of turning my characters either rich or poor. Which is probably something we all do because it's easy and/or traumatic enough to create a good background.

So financial backgrounds!

To Hear the Angels Sing

Jinki is middle class when he's human, while Kibum is middle-class, turning lower middle-class when his father passes away.

I have no idea why it is so, but it is. I honestly didn't give much thought to his (Jinki's) living conditions while he was alive, but I imagine an old apartment that is still functional, maybe 2-bedrooms but a low rent. He may or may not have had a roommate while he was in college. Kibum lives with his parents until he's 25 and his grandmother dies, then he moves out because he gets a job and it's just ... a very humble apartment and he doesn't have enough money to fill it with clutter and a lot of furniture.

I Won't Give Up

The drabbles here are probably middle-class and upper middle-class. For all characters. I don't think there's anyone very rich nor are there anyone very poor in any of these drabbles.

It was a Dark and Stormy Nightmare

It's a cannon story and they're living in the dorm. I'm assuming they have quite a lot of money to their name by now, though, soooo I'm guessing Minseok isn't too poor.

When One Year Pass

This story is probably upper middle-class to be honest. I imagine them living in a nice neighborhood with nice neighbors and it's all very idyllic. They go to nice schools and nice colleges and Kibum may be living in a dorm but that's mostly for the experience, really.

Deep Breath

Also cannon-ish, so again, Jongin is probably not poor. I imagine the scenes with his family to be in a small house in the suburbs so I'm guessing we're not talking financially struggling here either.

"You'll Get Bored of Me."

Cannon again - Jongdae probably also has a lot of money. Honestly, in this fic in particular he probably has more than the other members because he's too scared to leave his room and actually buy things.

Whispers of Gratitude

I imagine Jinki from a middle-class home while Kibum is definitely upper middle-class or rich. Jinki's parents aren't struggling financially. His father earns more than his mother, so when they divorce Jinki's mother goes from middle-class to lower middle-class but it's still not affecting their life much. Kibum's parents earn a lot of money but are just ty parents.

Starchildren

Jinki's parents are upper middle-class. Their house isn't big by any means but they live well. Sort of like incognito with their wealth (although they're not rich). Junghee's mother is lower middle-class but both Junghee and Sodam are willing to take part time jobs to make it all go round as well. Taemin's parents are middle-class, his house is fairly boring and average, one of those neighborhoods were all the houses look like one another because they were all built at the same time by the same architect or smth like that.

And it doesn't really matter in the ocean.

Maybe if I Skip Dinner

Another cannon EXO story, but this time it's obvious wealth. So yeah, none of the EXO members are poor at all in this story although they still live in the dorm. It's more a convenience thing rather than a "I can't afford to live on my own"-thing.

We're Up All Night to Get Lucky

Hum, I actually think both of them are upper middle-class in this. I didn't think much about it, but considering how much alcohol they're buying they're not struggling college kids. So yeah, upper middle-class or rich. Either of the two.

A Cliché Family

Well, they're definitely not poor, lol. They're rich, let's be real. With Kibum a successful graphic designer and Jinki a pediatrician, these guys are not lacking money in any way. That their sons become artists and doctors as well don't really make the family less rich.

Show Must Go On

Jinki has a lot of money, so he's rich. There's no way the guy's not rich. This is not even upper middle-class. Kibum, I think, might verge on the line between upper middle-class and middle-class. He's working harder for his money but he's not going to starve at the end of the day because he can't afford food.

Because of You

See, Gwiboon is obviously upper middle-class (as stated in When One Year Pass). Taemin is rich, but he's not an about his money. Eunsook is likely middle-class while Minho is also middle-class. Jonghyun is upper middle-class.

Ante Mortem

(Okay, so this is where it gets interesting).

Minjung is rich and she's not just rich, she's like super ultra rich. Part of the 1% of the richest people in the world or something. She's got some money to her name. Taemin is middle-class and it's kind of sad but yeah. Totally average, 100 % middle-class. Jonghyun is not poor, but he lives like the lower middle-class. He's got money stashed away (a couple of millions probably, you should get a lot of money to take away lives), but his lifestyle and his apartment and everything about him screams lower middle-class. Kibum is a fun case as well, because he lives like he's poor, but with all the things he's stealing he's likely lower middle-class. But the neighborhood in which he lives is poor, very very poor.

(And Jinki doesn't need money.)

If Not Us, Who?

Oh, here's another story that could be interesting.

Minseok is upper middle-class, working as an HR manager. Jongin is middle class as a software technician (iirc). Kyungsoo is a pilot so he's most likely upper middle-class as well. Chanyeol is middle-class as a paramedic, while Jongdae is making big money as a dentist. Baekhyun started as a middle-class but has likely worked himself to teter the line between upper middle-class and rich.

Witchcraft

Jinki is middle-class (his father lower middle-class), while Kibum is probably what would be considered upper middle-class. Their social standing is way more important than their finances, though. Jonghyun is also middle-class with his small bakery of goods.

Ten Years

I imagine Jinki and Minji to be middle-class citizens while Kibum is a rich who lives like a middle-class. (Aka he's got a lot of money, but he does not flaunt them at all. Which would be really stupid to do tbh.)

Âmes Soeurs

Yay! Kibum is middle-class / upper middle-class. He earns a lot but he also pays a lot of rent in the clinic. So there's that. Jinki is upper middle-class but that is to be expected. Minho is middle-class on the lower end. Taemin is lower middle-class and Jonghyun is also upper middle-class.

LoveGame

Gwiboon is a middle-class party girl while Jinki proooobably has a lot of money to his name, really. I'd consider him rich, not just upper middle-class, but he lives humbly. Very humbly.

lachrymose

This a poor family. Jonghyun works himself into middle-class but throughout most of the fic they are poor and barely has money. It's a mess. Eunsook manages to stay as a lower middle-class family when she gives birth to Taemin.

For the First Time

Both girls (both Minjung and Junghee) are middle-class girls and they live a nice and cozy middle-class life. Just as it is best.

Mors Voluntaria

Jonghyun is lower middle-class and also somewhat of a struggling college student. That's why he lives with Taemin so rent isn't too high. Kibum is also lower middle-class bordering on poor and his apartment complex literally looks like it should be torn down. It's such an eyesore. Not good.

The Art of Suicide

This is actually cannon (believe it or not) so none of them are struggling financially here. It'd be quite unfair if they were, though. No reason to struggle both mentally and financially, that's hell.

Why Did I Fall in Love With You?

Also cannon-ish, they're all in SHINee at least so once again, we're dealing with a story wherein the characters are not poor at all.

Psycho

Jongin comes from an upper middle-class home and soon elevates himself into riches. (I was gonna say fame and fortune but that just isn't right, lmao). Taemin is from a middle-class home and he just jumps aboard Jongin's riches.

Zeri

Junghee is Rich with a capital R. As one of the only female CEO in the city, she's accumulated a lot of wealth, really. Minjung is middle-class and quite ordinary, really. She doesn't hold any big positions or anything like that. But she doesn't need to or want to. Junghee does.

Aviophobia

Kyungsoo is rich. Like ridiculously rich. But throughout most of the story he lives in a middle-class home.

They Always Have Such Violent Fights...

I imagine Minseok is quite wealthy, actually. Upper middle-class most likely. Luhan earns a lot of money but he also spends a lot of money lmao.

You Win.

These guys are all college guys from normal middle-class homes who have money to go on camping for a week. There's not a lot of detail to this.

And the last 5 fics or so because it's been an hour and I don't really like those stories. ; - ;

Thank you for sharing. I'll have to check them out when I have time. I'm currently running myself ragged updating my own, fixing the summaries, etc. Ugh, the life of a writer. You gotta love it.
