The Battleship Island
I don’t know if it’s too late or not to review this movie because I think latlat10 already wrote her review version, but to keep my promise to BigBossAlyss, this review is born. Actually, I have doubt to write a honest review about The Battleship Island, considering this fandom is full with Joong Ki’s fans and lovers, but again, as a moviegoer, I have opinion about this movie.
The Battleship Island tells a story about Korean citizens who endure the force labor in an island during Japan’s regime between the year 1942-1945 and how they try to escape from the island. I bet all the viewers want to watch this movie because of Joong Ki, who will get married this Oct 31, and mostly, to learn a bit history.
Tbh, when I watched this movie, I felt boring in the beginning and not sure if I wanted to continue watching. Joong Ki appears 30 minutes after the movie is playing and his character somehow just popped from nowhere. You can say his soldier character in this movie is when Yoo Si Jin in his very serious mode. He’s heroic, even too heroic in my opinion. No wonder so many people said his character is very fictional. Well, I can’t blame them, though. He’s shot, falls in water and even dirty, but he’s still handsome. If I can quote what latlat10 said on her review, “he’s still pretty even when he’s dirty.” LOL... I really love Kim Su-an, the girl really steals the movie just like she did in Train to Busan. Her chemistry with Hwang Jung Min is really good.
Overall, special effect and cinematography are daebak, but this movie is really lack in plot and character development. I love this movie, but I’m not sure if I want to rewatch it.
So, Joong Ki, you did really good in this movie although I must say you can do better. Now, go off marry your lady :D :D
