I Call Onew's Alleged Scandal B.S.

It's hard to find a clear article on what happened exactly. It seems like the stories keep changing. But I will link a Soompi article since I am most familiar with their website.

https://www.soompi.com/2017/08/14/shinee-onews-ual-harassment-case-forwarded-prosecution/

So here's what I know. Sometime around mid-August, Onew went to some kind of strip club in Seoul. Reports say that he was hella drunk and could barely walk straight. He was trying to get up from a chair and ended up grabbing a woman's thigh or leg inappropriately. She was a stripper dancing that the club, I believe. From here, there are two different stories. The woman claimed that she was ually assaulted. Onew says he was too drunk to remember.

Now I obviously wasn't there. I don't know the woman or Onew personally. So I can't truly vouch for anyone's character without being biased. But I have been drunk/tipsy before and I've also been in a situation where someone purposely or accidentally touched my . After reading some articles I have concluded that this is a BULL. It's a bull case and I'm saddened that something like this has caused him so much conflict.

First off, the story is inconsistent and strange. She's touched 3 times and then she's not even sure if she was touched at all. And 3 times is 2 too many to allow someone to touch you. I mean if someone was touching you, wouldn't you look to investigate or move away? I am not victim blaming. Yes, she might have been touched inappropriately. But it wasn't with malicious intent nor did she feel like she was in danger at the moment. She isn't a victim so it isn't victim blaming.

In none of the reports did it mention anything about her telling him to stop, moving away from him, or asking anyone for help with the situation. It seemed like she just took the fact that she had been touched and ran with it. And then she detracted her statement later on saying it was a misunderstanding. ual harassment isn't something you can just take back. People are scarred for life when ual assault happens to them. And people are fired from jobs and sent to jail for ual assault. It's something serious.

I've read statements that people think she was crying assault because he's famous and she was out to hurt him. Although some women do that (at least in America) I'm not sure what her intent was. Did she truly believe she was being ually harassed at that moment or was she really after his cash and reputation? I really don't have an answer to that. But if she is a stripper or if she's a person who parties often, she should know the difference between a drunk and a predator. And Onew's not a predator.

It's really disheartening that something like this happened to Onew. He's a sweet person and he's one of the most respectful and kind people in the industry. His image, as well as SHINee's image, means so much to him and he probably feels responsible for everything.

He's not totally off the hook here though. He decided to let himself get out drunk where he can't function. But at the same time, most of us have gotten drunk and maybe did something stupid. And if he wasn't an idol, the case would've been dropped and his life would've continued on as normal. But because he's one of the industry's most recognizable idols and apart of a group with a generally clean image, it caused a decline in his status. He had to cancel his role in a drama, postpone a variety show appearance, and will even miss out the upcoming Japanese tour.

No one should be falsely labeled as a offender. There are so many real predators out there assaulting, abusing, and people. I think this just distracts from the real problems. We should use this time to educate people on how to identify ual predators and what to do if you are harassed. We should also use this time to inform people on how to drink responsibly.

This situation right here is not a ual assault.

Period.

I will continue to support Onew and SHINee through this. Onew is still my ultimate bias and he doesn't deserve to be blacklisted. Overall, Shinee has a pretty clean image and I hope this will all blow over soon. SHINee is a hardworking and sensible group who wouldn't do anything purposely to damage their own reputations. And everyone who left the fandom because of this incident was never true fans to begin with. And with him perhaps enlisting into the military within the next 2 years or so, let's send him off with a good rep :)

Although he's not my ultimate bias, but he's like runner up. I agree I can't see Onew as that type of person. I want him and the rest of SHINee to bounce back from this. SHINee fighting!!! Shawol forever

When I saw the news at first the first thing I said was "I would still trust him with my life". That hasn't changed. I don't doubt he touched her, getting black out drunk is idiotic but I saw a lot of fans projecting own experiences onto this situation, taking it subjectively. Whatever happens I still love him, I still trust him and none of it has changed.
(Although I have also tried not to rip up open wounds because some fan response did hurt me so I haven't been reading up on anything but the big headlines-ish. The prosecution is to close the case formally, most likely. I hope it'll blow over.)
