If you're a writer then help me!

Hey Writers!

Is it just me or are any other writer getting sick and tired of the lack of comments each chapter is bringing? I read my older fanfictions where it was cringy and just amateur-like and I got loads and loads of comments in each chapter(heck not to brag or anything but getting 30-35 comments on one chapter just made my day so much)but now I'm struggling to even get more than 1 or 2(if I'm lucky then the most I get is like 3-5 like wtf?!) SO I NEED ADVICE! What can I do to make me focus on writing the story and completing it rather than getting caught up in the lack of motivation or just laziness not to update?

I actually wasted 3 days cause I was too lazy or just didn't lack motivation in updating like ARGH MY LIFE! I have everything ready and I am sitting on my bed, ready to write but then I proceed to read my older published chapters rather than make new chapters which is what I craved to do during my exam period but now that's over,my motivation and craving to write is also gone -,-'' so what do you writers do or say to yourselves to update your fanfictions without thinking about outer consequences(e.g.comments,upvotes and subscribers)?

Please do give me as much advice as possible since it really really would help me!

Honestly I don't like the writing format Wattpad has(AFF is just so much neater and has more options)but I write more on Wattpad due to requests and comments I get from readers hence feeling more motivated to write on there even tho I prefer AFF A LOT LOT LOT MORE!

Often I really wonder why a lot of AFF readers have become silent or just don't want to comment....Especially when the stats of each chapter of readers I get is often more than 200+ in my popular fics -,-'' Also noticed from 2012 where I started and gotten lots of comments and subscribers and upvotes and now it's 2017 and it's just downhilled a lot so is it that the years go on then the less the comments, subcribers and upvoters? Which is weird since AFF is getting more and more recognition as a fanfic site so surely more people should comment isn't it?! (I swear AFF should do something about the comments or something since I see only featured fanfics to get lots of comments nowadays which is unfair since I see lots of great fanfics which don't have much recognition at all, very little to none in fact)

Sorry for the rant or looking like a bit desperate for readers' comments but ARGH this has got to me A LOT at times -,-'' Just wanted to get rid of the hard feelings or whatever in order to hopefully update I guess?

I've never received much attention for all my fics, be it subscription, upvote or comment (though I beg like a shameless lamb), but I'm still proud of what I'd achieved today. I may not get attention, but I get satisfaction of what I wrote and posted. Every fic I wrote is a challenge for me, be it the single chapter update. Yes, we may feel deflated for having no response from the readers, but for me, everyone has their right on commenting. Take for example, I read, but I'm not good in commenting by chapter. Most of the time, I'll take down notes and write a long and tangy thought at the final chapter (or epilogue, if there is one). But then, there're times I'll be so LAZY to even say a word, still I make it a point to bookmark it as a reminder for me to do my job as a reader. And then, there're times too I'm too LAZY to type out a single word IF the author left his/her comments un-replied. I mean, com'on, be logical, why waste your energy when you get nothing in return. As reader, we love to interact with the author as well as vise versa. And I can really understand your frustration here. But I'll say, just have a grateful and open heart, you'll get over this. And if you do believe you reap what you sow, and you do comment on other's fic like me, then perhaps, one day, just one fine day later, your subbies will come back and flood your fics will comments ^^
Please don't give up yet as brighter days are here to come!!!

I'm actually in the same situation as you, honestly but if you need advice, mine would be is to always write for myself than others. Your personal satisfaction from writing a story should be your priority because the one who is going to read your story, again and again, will be you without the knowledge of your other readers will ever be re-reading it. Another thing that helping with writing is to get to it as soon you feel inspired or have an idea to write stuck in your head. You will feel less motivated when you put that idea on hold and lose it slowly. If you don't have your computer/laptop with you when the idea struck, quickly grab your phone/ipad/piece of paper to write in down so you can copy it all back into your AFF or wattpad later so you won't falter in progress. It might be tedious but it gets work done.

I hope you find either advice helpful.

i'm not entirely sure how to get out of the whole preoccupation with subs, comments, and upvotes, but i think if you really devote yourself to the idea that originally piqued your interest enough for you to write it, you'll find that you just need to follow your eccentric dreams and characters and keep up with them fast enough for you to transcribe whatever they do xD good luck!

i usually find myself pretty inspired by whatever ideas i choose to write because i have so many. whenever i decide to actually expand on an idea, it's a good indication that my energy for that one idea will carry over until i've finished the story. maybe you could think about the idea as an idea and spend a few days thinking about it and playing with it. if you have a lack of motivation or feel lazy, don't force yourself to write. i find that that makes me feel even more reluctant to write. give yourself a day, a week, or longer if you want. this isn't your job so you don't need to feel so obliged to it (yet, unless you're planning on becoming a writer). also, you could try to find someone in real life that could look over your work and give you feedback. when online readers don't respond much, i give it to one of my friends who also writes and she helps me. you could also try making the writing process more spontaneous if you wanted. if laying everything out and ready to go kills your motivation, wait until you get an idea for your work in the middle of doing something else and maybe write that down spontaneously. (i don't know if that works, but sometimes i randomly pull up my google doc while i'm doing something else and write a couple sentences.)
