What am I doing wrong?

I've been writing fanfiction for less than a year and at first everything was going fine but it seems like lately my work isn't what the readers want to see. I really enjoy writing stories with original characters and while I do get okay feedback it seems like people don't like it. I've seen less well written stories on this site with more views and subs than I have with all 15 of the stories I've posted. I just wanna write what makes people happy while still writing what me happy at the same time. I've been cowriting with a friend and even that is doing better, despite the somewhat negative feedback we are receiving. I just wanted a know what I can do to become a better writer and how to please me readers. If you have any suggestions of what you would would like to see please don't hesitate to let me know.

Just follow what you want to write! I love reading your stories!

As others have said, there are some crappy stories that get lots of love because of the celebrities included. Write for you. Your readers will enjoy it.

Rule number one: DO NOT TRY TO PLEASE ANYONE. Not even your mother. Write what you want to write, not what they want to read. Otherwise it won't be real, just some fake sh1t. That's what you doing wrong.

I think the most important is that /you/ enjoy what /you're/ writing. It'll translate into your work if you're dissatisfied or finds it lacking to write.
There are plenty of stories of .. dubious nature on AFF that are wildly popular. Don't measure yourself with these. The amount of readers on AFF isn't really the best measure of your quality.
If you want to challenge yourself, you could try to write a few request oneshots or something of that sort. But I think, most importantly - don't lose yourself as a writer, even if the feedback isn't huge.

hmm, i'm not a writer (more like a reader, but i make graphics) but I know that people here enjoy reading about popular groups. It's sad but it's just how it works, who do you write about? If the story is well written then that is not the problem, maybe you just enjoy writing something that other people may not find as interesting as you do.
