A Cautionary Tale - Losing An Old Friend to Driving Under Influence

"ITS STUPID. SMART PEOPLE DONT GET INTO CARS DRUNK AND DRIVE."

Hey guys, so I'd like to share this with you since I want to let this pain out of my chest. I hadn't had a chance to cry or let this news actually sink in until a few minutes ago. I'm writing this on my phone because it's so raw and real.

I was at this Sweet Fifteen party (Quinceañera) and scrolling down on Facebook I see two old friends from high school status grieving over a friend. I looked at the tagged name and click on it. When I get the face of this person that passed away it was like my emotions froze completely. Yes, I knew/remembered this guy. In middle school and a little in high school. I ACTUALLY sat down with him a couple of times during lunch and talked to him a few times.

He was tall, handsome, funny, kind, goofy and with a passion for photography. I dare say I had a crush on him. He was like a guy from a fairy tale. He never did anything "crazy." He was the kind of guy to remain sober at a party and drive his friends safely home. He'd give you rides without asking money for gas even if he was one tank away from empty. He was a good guy.  He didn't mind spending his last dollar on you. Those rare gems of a person. Especially someone from his age.

Now he's gone thanks to a drunk bastard.

His name was Ricardo Olivarez and he was out for a drive on his new 2001 Mizuki motorcycle. He stopped at a stop sign and then the drunk bastard rams into him, sending him flying off his bike. Tragically, Ricardo succumbed to his injuries at 4:00 AM on Saturday. You know what else? The man that killed him got out on a bail. Are you ing kidding me? What's worse is that the driver doesn't event think he didn't do anything wrong because he didn't "notice" Ricardo. Dude... if I had that in front of me...

I couldn't go to Ricardo's mourning, but I will visit where he was sadly murdered with a rose where the vigil was held. I only interacted with him in middle school, but my heart grows attachment no matter how little I know you. Especially someone like Ricardo. He was filled with dreams to become a professional photographer and let me tell you HE WAS GOOD AT IT. My heart is broken. Especially to know that good people are killed and s are running around taking innocent lives and STILL enjoying life. Disgusting.

Just on Friday he had made plans with one of his friends to go and do a shoot somewhere and now he's in heaven. Yet, the people he was friends with and family were not prepared for this. He was so young and beautiful. Again, a wonderful guy who was just starting his career and being such a reliable person and sweet now forever gone.

RIP RICARDO OLIVAREZ.

Don't drink and drive guys. Really. Just don't. Call a cab, family member, or friend, but don't drive! You could not only end your own life, but an innocent one as wellnot counting the pain and suffering of the affected families. JUST DONT DO IT.

May he rest in peace. Reading statistics of drunk driving and motorcycle injuries are one hyung, but experiencing a loss and feeling the pain is a completely different issue. I'm sorry for your loss.
Karma will get to that drunk bastard.
I hope you're doing well. ❤️ Please take care.
