MY LAST WARNING TO TRANSLATORS

There is a fine line between permissible translation and plagiarism people.

It has recently come to my attention that there are some out there translating my fics without permission (and i am sure there are other fanfic sites out there that i would never hear of if not for kind people pointing it out to me).

You need to understand that:

(1) Giving you permission to translate one particular fic does not mean i give you permission to translate all my other fics

(2) Not asking for permission but putting my name on your translated fic does not mean i have allowed you to translate it

(3) I know you like my fics that's why you want to share it with your friends in another language you speak BUT THIS IS SERIOUSLY NOT IT (I mean i appreciate the thought, sure, but JUST NO)

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WAKE UP ONE DAY LEARNING THAT SOMEONE HAS TRANSLATED YOUR FIC (AND PUT YOUR NAME THERE) BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THAT IS BECAUSE HE/SHE HAS NEVER ASKED YOU FOR PERMISSION.

DO YOU WANT ME TO TAKE DOWN ALL MY FICS BECAUSE I WILL DO IT IF THIS CONTINUES

hi, I have read your excellent fanfic " the Stars, our Savior" and I just love it, I have one proposal to make, can I have the honor to translate your fanfic for the Spanish fan, I think it will be a pleasure to know this great work of yours, if you say yes ofcourse I will give you the credit, the link to your original work, I will not change a word, and I will make you a cover for your fic, because i will be needing one for wattpad, the app that I will use.
but if you say not, dont worry i will not do it.
I already have translated another fanfic, so I'm good in this.

Ugh, i know how you feel. I gave permission for a couple of people to translate my fic a while back, so long as they fully credited me and gave me a link to the trans.
I havent heard back from them in a while and im torn between not wanting to push them in case the trans is taking a long time and following it up because i want to know if theres just random trans of my work floating on the internet.
I want to allow peiple to trans so my fics can reach more people but situations like this just..... Urgh <333

How annoying and upsetting. I would be upset too if that happened to me. I think translators need to understand that if writers wanted it translated to another language, they would have asked for it. Translating to another language without telling the original writers is still considered stealing.

I know how you feel. Cause same thing happen to me. They just don't know how to stop plagiarism people's work. It's not their work yet they claimed as their own work. I really hate it. But don't just because of this, you'll give up on writing and sharing your Fanfic. There's so many people that supported you so don't feels discouraged about it. I will always cheer for you!

I know this is really horrible and I understand because same thing happened to me before and I hope you won't stop writing or sharing with us because of this though... You are a really good writer and it will be a shame to see you take down your stories

This is not funny at all. They should've contacted you to get permission instead of posting it somewhere else and mentioning you. If they never got permission from you in the first place, they shouldn't have done that. There are boundaries on that and they are crossing the line.
