She wasn't rich nor was she poor. Her and her family would be classified as a middle-class family. Being the only child at that point in time, her parents enrolled her into martial arts classes and gymnastics for defense purposes only. They believed that it was needed in case anything bad was to happen when she's alone. | At age 8 she began finding an interest in dancing. Reluctant at first her parents wouldn't allow such a thing. They clearly displayed their dislike in her interest but being the determined girl she is, she did everything to change their mind. For hours she would sit outside their bedroom door on her knees only moving to get up and use the restroom. She wouldn't eat in the presence of her parents but rather when they were asleep. Frustrated they decided to let her carry out their interest. Although they still disliked it, they admired their daughters strong will to do whatever she could do till she was given permission. | A few months before her birthday, she was enrolled into Seoul Dance Academy where she met her best friend Choi Jonghyun or Changjo of Teen Top. Although he is 2 years younger than her, they become close often relying on one other during hard core dance sessions. If at anytime either one of them couldn't get the steps down, the other was right behind to help out. 5 years later the academy held a dance competition where JYP himself was a special guest judge. Blown away by her dancing skills, he picked up her and enrolled her as a trainee. | For 4 years she trained under JYP Entertainment being mentored by JYP himself and trainee Meng Jia.
