jae is a rather laid-back kind of girl, never getting super upset. usually it causes more harm to get upset and doesn't want anger or sadness to control her life. since she attended an all-girls school where drama went around like a disease, jae worked hard to be able to mask her feelings. she would much rather spend all that energy practicing dance so that she can be good enough to pursue it as a career.
usually, having empathy is considered a good thing. jae always tries to understand people better by trying to understand their pains. it became her weakness in her second year of high school. when jae's friend committed suicide, all jae could feel was sadness, guilt and anger. she couldn't understand why her friend would do such a thing and felt that it was her fault, being closest to her friend, for not helping her.
going to a new school, anyone would feel shy. for jae, shyness doesn't really begin to cover it. jae has a difficult time speaking to people that aren't a part of her immediate family and is even more intimidated by attractive people. she once had a dream of pursuing singing but that dream promptly died when she realized that she'd never be able to sing in front of a crowd. they only time she feels confident is when she is dancing and allows her body to do all of the communicating.
not as a result of anything, but jae just happens to be an impatient person. she gets frustrated when people don't understand her or can't do something. she had her hair permed because she hated having to spend hours curling it every day. she doesn't like to waste time. this can sometimes get her in to trouble because people may think she is simply lazy or that she is being cruel because they're slow. she knows that it's not really a good trait to have but she occasionally snaps at people still (usually hansol).

 

( background ) : jae just so happened to be born on the day where the entire chwe family was present. south korean new years is a time where, typically, people will return home to celebrate the lunar new year but because mama chwe was pregnant, they couldn't go to south korea so the whole family went to them in new york. south korean new years is a holiday to show respect for the elders and the ancestors so when she was born, her name became jae hwa, meaning "respect" and "beauty".
when jae was six and hansol was five, the whole family moved to hongdae, south korea to be closer to family. their youngest sister, hangyeol (sofia), was born one year later.
due to the adjustment of language and setting, jae became very introverted and it was difficult to get her to comply in going to kindergarten so they kept her home to educate her themselves but enrolled her in the same class as her brother so that she would have someone to help her with her shyness.
after middle school, the siblings parted way with hansol going to baek ho and jae going to an all-girls academy. jae genuinely enjoyed it for the first year and a half but when her friend committed suicide part way through, she was unable to go back. her parents felt that she might need the support of her brother again so they enrolled her at baek ho. jae got better over the summer but didn't completely heal from the loss.

 

( trivia ) :

• lots of people assume that Hansol is the oldest of the siblings because he is taller and has quite the deep voice.
• since Jae is quite laid-back, the only person she really gets mad at is herself, mostly when she can't nail her choreography. she does like to tease hansol though.
• her female dancing role-model is Hyoyeon (snsd). her male dancing role-model is jongin (exo).
• jae isn't the best singer - nothing like seungkwan - but she can still hold a tune and likes to sing songs under her breath pretty much all the time. the reason why she doesn't pursue singing is because she get stage-fright. oddly, she doesn't get it when she's dancing.
• jae doesn't have much of a sweet-tooth. when they were younger she would only accept candy or chocolate so that she didn't seem rude but later, she would give it all to hansol or their younger sister, hangyeol.
• because she's an avid dancer, jae needs to keep a strict facial cleansing routine so that she her face doesn't break out. her favourite brand is etude house because it smells really nice.
• jae always gets hungry right around 11:00 and needs to cook something to eat (if they have a kitchen in the dorm building) like eggs or ramen. if they don't have one, she is always on the hunt for snacks since hers always seem to go missing...
• jae's favourite flavour is red bean since it isn't too sweet. she like red bean moon cakes, red bean ice cream, red beans with her patbingsu, red bean bubble tea, pretty much anything red bean. she doesn't like black bean though, expecially jjajjangmyeon noodles.
• sometimes, she'll borrow her brother's clothes because she thinks they're very comfy. her favourite items are his hats (since he has so many of them).

- they're almost exactly one year apart from each other so they're actually quite close. of course, jae thinks that it's her duty as the older sister to younger brother. she thinks that it's quite cute that he gets shy around girls. the fact that he's very ticklish is very convenient for her, especially since she's not ticklish at all. unfortunately for hansol, jae isn't ticklish so he gets back at her by being embarrassing. after her friend committed suicide, hansol comforted her and helped her to get better. he thinks she's much better but still watches out for her in case something happens.

- soonyoung is the co-captain of the dance team captain. jae respects him a lot because he does the majority of the choreographing. he has a lot of energy and loves to be funny so he always makes jae laugh during practice at his antics.

( how well do you do in school? ) : my best subjects are other languages, music class and math class. i do really well in them. i really hate history and the sciences though - i'm not so great at them but i still have to care about them to get into my choice of dance academy.
 

( would you say you have senioritis? why? ) : yes, i just want to graduate so that i can get into an academy for dance. sure, i'm not a bad student, but dancing is something that i hope to do for the rest of my life. the rest is just extra.
 

( why did you come to baek ho academy? ) : I wanted to experience a more normal high school for my last year. the school i had attended before was an all-girls school and there were some... things that happened last year. I felt like i couldn't go back there. hansol also went to this school and whenever he came home for the summer, he would always talk about how much fun it was that year in school.
 

( how well do you get along with class 3-a? ) : i think i get along with the dance team members quite well. sometimes i find it hard to socialize with the more energetic ones in my class because i get shy. overall, i don't dislike anyone (though people can get annoying at times. especially [the fangirl] and [the flirt]; there's more to life than boys).

( personality ) : though minghao is one of the younger students, he seems to get along well with everyone, especially since he's cute and energetic. he also works really hard to keep up with the schoolwork even though korean isn't his first language. he dedicates a lot of time to b-boy dancing so that he doesn't lose his skill and that takes a lot of his time. unfortunately, because he seems happy all the time, people don't always ask him how he is doing, they just assume everything is alright and so he has the occasional time where he might break down from homesickness or frustration but will bounce back so that he doesn't worry anyone.

( meeting ) : the first time that jae every saw minghao was on the first day of school. she didn't think much of him because he was just another face (a cute face, but there seemed to be a lot of them in class 3-a). she formally met him when she joined the dance team... and then accidentally stepped on his foot during their first practice.

( interactions ) : most of their interactions happen during their daily dance team practice and the topic is usually about dance. when she finds out that he speaks mandarin, she asks him to speak with her in chinese so that she can learn how to better converse. after that, he will randomly teach her words or leave her notes to teach her chinese. jae thinks that minghao is very cute and finds it hard not to smile around him. she is kind of weary with how social he is and finds that kind of intimidating.

 

( relationship ) : they meet on the first day of class because jae transfers into their school just then. perhaps he confesses to her by leaving a note one day, written in mandarin?
